The Histology Technician obtains and prepares pathology specimens for evaluation in accordance with department and regulatory standards. This position has access to confidential patient information.

Required Educational Degree:
High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education:
Associates Degree in biological or applied sciences

Preferred Experience:
1-2 years Clinical experience in area of concentration

Job Essential Functions:

1. Ensures effective communication with all customers.
2. Obtain and distribute acceptable laboratory specimens and required information in a timely manner.
3. Performs all procedures required for the preparation of pathology specimens in a manner consistent with department and regulatory standards.
4. Demonstrates personal competency by successful completion of annual department competency program.
5. Evaluates the validity of the pathology specimen preparation process and may consult with provider before taking corrective action.
6. Performs accurate registration, test ordering, and patient information gathering within the organization's information system.
7. Ensures proper functioning of pathology instrumentation and methods. Troubleshoots and resolves malfunctions in methods and instruments.
8. Participates in the development of new laboratory methods and special projects.
