Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Position Overview | The Research Associate will manage the daily operations of the new state-of-the-art Histology Core. The individual is expected to utilize their expertise to perform routine bench histology work while overseeing the regular maintenance of advanced scientific instrumentation and streamlining procedures to assist researchers with newly available techniques in HSC. The employee will be expected to liaise with team members from other Core Labs to provide quality service while working closely with students, faculty, and external clients. |
Minimum Qualifications | Master's degree and (5) years experience developing, maintaining and analyzing budgets relevant to research projects or equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications | A bachelor's degree with 4 years of related experience. Histology certification is preferred but not required. 1. Prepares sections of human, animal, and/or plant tissue for examination, using tissue processing and frozen section technique to cut, mount, and stain tissue specimens. 2. Assist in collecting and analyzing samples. Prepares slides or specimens, using special cutting and specified stain, to enhance visibility under a microscope. 3. Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by pathologists; maintains and troubleshoots delicate advanced equipment. 4. Performs computerized data entry of all work performed and generates reports as required. 5. May supervise and train researchers in relevant and proper histology procedures, including tissue cutdown, embedding, cutting, and staining. 6. Maintains SOPs in the laboratory; recommends and develops new services, projects, and procedures. 7. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. 8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. |
