Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Responsibilities & Duties
Maintains the Lab's TAT and routine histology duties: microtomy, embedding, cutting, staining intensity, proper cover slipping and staining artifacts
Operates automated laboratory instrumentation.
Orders/requests supplies when needed
Maintains policies and procedures to State/CLIA standards for successful State/CLIA inspections
Record keeping and quality control logs and documentation.
Responsible for equipment maintenance
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must be certified HT or HTL experienced Histotech and ASCP certified.
2-5 years Histotech experience required
