Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     • External hires may be eligible for up to a $4000.00 sign on bonus.

    Play an integral role in a patient’s diagnosis at UW Health. You’ll help bridge the gap between a tissue sample being taken and a diagnosis being made by a pathologist.

    We are seeking a Histo Technician (HT or HTL) - Dermatopathology/Mohs to: 

    • Prepare microscope slides that will assist pathologists in making a diagnosis.
    • Perform basic and complex testing.
    • Perform some advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and problem resolution.  
    • Coordinate and prioritize workflow to ensure timely testing.

    Education:

    Minimum – Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology OR Education and training equivalent to an associate degree to include:

    Education: 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses

    Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science

    Work Experience:

    Preferred – Previous laboratory experience

    Licenses and Certifications:

    Minimum – 

    Preferred – Histotechnician/Histotechnologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent
