Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Expected pay for this position is $28.44 - $33.46/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for preparing and staining tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. In doing so, performs high complexity and/or non-routine histology procedures requiring independent technical assessment of assay performance. Position is responsible for technical operation of specialized histological assays including training, education and continued quality improvement of the high complexity procedures. Position will lead and direct the optimization and validation of new laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable regulatory accrediting agencies. Position will assist with the technical oversight and directing of routine histology procedures in order to ensure high quality, diagnostic throughput. Additionally, positon will be required to participate in the onsite NACCLS accredited School of Histology by ways of lecturing, providing educational resources or directing student clinical training. Position requires attention to detail, technical expertise of the chemical rationale of the assays performed and the analytic skills required to remedy any technical difficulties encountered with high complexity histology assays.
