Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     WAGI is seeking a Full Time Histology Technician to join our Pathology Lab. The Histology Technician is responsible for all phases of specimen handling and slide preparation of pathology specimens, including quality control and assurance.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide back up for Lab Assistant duties
    • Gross, embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated procedures
    • Perform all routine and specialized histology tissue, slide prep and staining procedures
    • Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limit
    • Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining
    • Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing
    • Distributing slides to pathologists
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
    • Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation
    • Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met
    • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations
    • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
    • Other duties, as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science or other equivalent science education, preferred
    • Required: (1) An earned Associates Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution OR (2)Education/training equivalent to the Associates Degree that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution as qualified under ANP.11610 with at least 3 months documented laboratory training performing high complexity testing
    • Education and training sufficient to support CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. This is to be reflective of the scope of practice in regular scheduled responsibilities and pay grade meeting all HCFA-CLIA 88 “testing personnel” criteria
    • Minimum 1 year pathology lab experience, preferred
    • Previous laboratory assistant experience, preferred

    Physical Activities and Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
    • Prolonged periods of sitting and performing administrative duties
    • Ability to lift 10 pounds frequently, occasional lifting 25 pounds and rarely lifting 50 pounds
    • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach, rarely
    • Ability to grasp and manipulate small objects such as slides and medical tools
    • Local travel in the region may be required to other locations as needed

    Washington Gastroenterology has an excellent compensation and benefit package that includes the following:

    Employees (and their families) who work full time (defined as working 30 or more hours per week) will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, and basic life insurance. In addition employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401(k) plan which includes a company provided safe harbor contribution of 3% of annual earnings and the potential for a company discretionary profit sharing contribution.

    All employees will be eligible to accrue PTO at a rate of .04 hours per payroll hour (1.6 hours for a 40 hour week) which can be used for and exceeds the required mandatory WA State and other local ordinances. In addition, full time employees will be eligible for a Vacation accrual with a maximum annual accrual of 77 hours as a new hire.

    WAGI has 8 standard Holidays each year for which full time employees are eligible to receive paid holiday. In addition, full time employees will be given 1 Float Holiday each year that they can schedule.

    This is an Hourly position and the anticipated Compensation range is $27.20 - $35.20. The hired applicant is also eligible for annual discretionary bonuses.
