Hospice Director directs, supervises, and governs the hospice program including inpatient care, home care and bereavement follow-up. Administers and maintains quality assurance, environmental, and infection control policies in accordance with facility objectives. Being a Hospice Director prepares reports for hospital administration on activities of the facility operation. Develops hospice related educational and informational programs. Additionally, Hospice Director requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. The Hospice Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Hospice Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Responsibilities

    The Executive Director is responsible for the overall direction of the home health services. They are responsible for the employment of qualified hospice personnel; is responsible for the provision of home health services, directly, and the delegation to and coordination of personnel evaluations; is responsible for establishing standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines. The Executive Director establishes, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.

  • Ensuring organizational compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation
  • Assures that all business conduct is above the minimum standards required by law and will not condone any activities that achieve results through violation of the law, unethical business, or patient care
  • Monitoring business operations to ensure financial
  • Evaluating hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and
  • Conflict and complaint management and
  • Establishing and maintaining effective channels of communication including integration or technology, as
  • Ensuring personnel stay current with clinical information and
  • Ensuring adequate and appropriate
  • Staff development including orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing and quality assessment performance
  • Ensuring that interdisciplinary care is
  • Ensuring supportive services are available to personnel. The Executive Director or qualified alternate shall be available on the premises or by telecommunication during normal business
  • Ensuring coordination with other departments, services, and senior management, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring staff and organization stay current on local and national hospice issues and trends.
  • Ensuring that appropriate service policies and procedures are developed and implemented to accomplish identified
  • Directing staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to

  • Monitoring service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive
  • Ensuring services provided by other agencies are authorized by
  • Monitoring operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic
  • Ensuring appropriate data collection and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing
  • Ensuring adequate space, equipment and supplies are
  • Ensuring actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of services and personnel.
  • Ensuring that structure and systems promote interdisciplinary care
  • Ensuring collaboration with agencies and vendors for effective management of
  • Ensuring standards of ethical business and clinical practice are
  • Must adhere to the company attendance and reliability guidelines, which are an essential function of the job to ensure quality, and consistent patient care.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Master’s Degree in health care or related field
    • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in health care
    • Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel. Has an ability to deal tactfully with the
    • Has knowledge of corporate business.
    • A supervising Physician or Director of Patient Care Services may also be the Executive Director/Administrator. An administrator who is neither a physician nor a registered nurse shall have training and experience in health service administration and at least one year of supervisory experience in home health/hospice care or health related programs.
