Hospice Supervisor manages the resources, operations, and staff of hospice care programs. Works with families and patients to develop optimal care plans. Being a Hospice Supervisor coordinates the delivery of a patient/family assessment process and care plan development. Oversees interdisciplinary teams of medical doctors, nursing staff, and other care providers inside and outside the facility. Additionally, Hospice Supervisor maintains an up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations of federal, state, and regulatory bodies relative to hospice care. May require a bachelor's degree in nursing, social work or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Hospice Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Hospice Supervisor typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Position is stressful in meeting deadlines. Minimal lifting of office records and printouts. Primarily, an out of the office field job which involves sitting, standing, walking and extensive driving. Excessive telephone communication. Traveling by car or airplane to local, out-of-town or state seminars, conferences or meetings. Must be able to read 12 point or larger type. Must be able to hear and speak in a manner understood by most people. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
