House Supervisor provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of unit management. Addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. Being a House Supervisor supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. Handles occurrences during the shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. Additionally, House Supervisor determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. Collaborates with patients, family members and physicians to ensure needs are met and problems are resolved. Typically requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification as a registered nurse (RN). The House Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. The House Supervisor performs complex and varied tasks requiring independent knowledge, its application to a variety of situations, as well as exercise of independent judgment. Coordinates the delivery of patient care and performs administrative functions on the nursing care units during days, evenings, nights, and weekends, supporting the direction established by the nurse managers and the CNO. The House Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective management of the activities of the total patient care services during his/her shift. These activities may include, but are not limited to: assisting the patient care services department with admissions and bed assignments, facilitating patient care activities throughout the hospital, staff assignments or reassignments, relieving or assisting unit staff during busy times, observing and evaluating staff, attending and participating in nursing staff meetings, and facilitation of continuous quality improvement activities. In the absence of the Chief Executive Officer or his designee, the House Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the Administrator-on-call.

RN License in the State of Indiana
ACLS Preferred
Job Related Experience: At least 1 year acute care nursing experience. Prefer BSN or previous management or critical care experience.
