House Supervisor provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of unit management. Addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. Being a House Supervisor supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. Handles occurrences during the shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. Additionally, House Supervisor determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. Collaborates with patients, family members and physicians to ensure needs are met and problems are resolved. Typically requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification as a registered nurse (RN). The House Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a House Supervisor typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Functions:
    Leads the teaching, coaching and mentoring which supports the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) Implementation Strategies for individuals supported. The House Supervisor leads and organizes a lively environment supporting adults with I/DD. The person in this position must be energetic, adapt easily to a changing daily schedule, works well in a team and demonstrates creative problem-solving skills. The House Supervisor will work closely with the people Sparc supports, and other staff to organize the completion of daily activities and supports. The House Supervisor assists and mentors other DSP staff to support recipients with activities of daily living and in maximizing physical, emotional, and intellectual growth.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Ensures the implementation of each PCP/IS by working directly with people supported and with new and learning DSP staff. This implementation includes the assurance Sparc is in compliance with appropriate program standards, agency policies, and procedures. This coordination is outlined in the responsibilities within this job description. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Provide day-to-day organization and implementation of activities that promote an organized and positive environment. Promoting an environment that is person centered, organized, non-reactive, and promotes independence. (Essential and Non-modifiable)

    • Fire/Disaster Drills;
    • Monthly staffing schedule/At Home DT staff scheduling;
    • Home and Vehicle checks;
    • Reporting maintenance needs;
    • Menu development and grocery shopping and Link budget coordination;
    • Organization of and documentation of monthly home meeting;
    • Inventory and supply maintenance;
    • Maintenance of emergency/disaster supplies;
    • Maintain attendance;
    • Arrange community activities with other assigned staff;
    • Review outcome data weekly; and
    • Coordination of budget and fund requests for the people supported at Sparc
    • Models and coordinates person-centered, least restrictive and community-integrated philosophies and supports. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Review the schedule daily to ensure adequate staff are present in each home, which may include providing coverage when needed. Work with Residential Management as a back-up when coverage is not feasible or present as needed. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Records supported person’s programmatic progress/daily notes and/or data sheets during each shift. Completes Incident Reports if applicable during each shift. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Coordinates transporting supported persons to places in the community, day programs/jobs, appointments and other preferred events. Assists with transfers of supported persons into and out of vehicles as needed and requested. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Works with fellow DSPs to complete required documentation, maintaining accurate and complete records for the home or supported persons, (e.g. incident and injury reports, data sheets, daily notes, etc.) meeting all required time frames for documentation and submission. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Assists with assuring the safety and well-being of persons supported. Coordinates and maintains a safe environment in a well-kept, clean, and safe manner. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Successfully completes the Medication Administration training and has been approved by Nursing personnel to administer medication. Participates in the medication administration as needed. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Partners with the health coordinator and nursing staff to communicate any/all nursing concerns, medication administration concerns, signs and symptoms of illness, and events which may affect the health and safety of people Sparc supports. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Provides or obtains effective and appropriate first aid and emergency health treatment, whenever required, assuring the safety and well-being of persons supported. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Leads the home staff with providing person-centered supports for persons receiving services. This may require assisting with provision of personal care, including but not limited to, assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, shaving, tooth brushing, choosing appropriate clothing, cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, mobility needs/transferring, etc. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Maintains confidentiality of protected information in regards to individuals supported and Sparc. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.*

    Skills Needed:

    • Must be detail oriented with excellent time management skills and have a proven ability to meet various deadlines.
    • Displays leadership skills necessary to effectively monitor, and oversee the program area and duties.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, community, families, and persons supported.
    Education/Experience Requirements:
    • At least a High School diploma or G.E.D.

    Other Requirements:

    • Experience or education working with persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferred. The level of experience/education required is at the discretion of the HR Director and CEO of Sparc.
    • At least 18 years old.
    • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License.
    • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
    • Is available to work the hours that promote the completion of responsibilities in this job description.
    • Must have reliable transportation in order to transport supported persons.
    • Ability to physically handle any special needs of persons supported by Sparc, in order to assist program staff in emergencies, including the ability to lift and transfer supported persons as needed.
    • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed/required.
    Working Conditions:
    • Work locations could include the residences of the people supported, The Sparc Administration Building, or Vocational Buildings. Some locations may expose the employee to mild to moderately high noise levels.
    • The employee may be exposed to various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, and to bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc. Safety and security procedures must be followed.
