  • POSITION SUMMARY As an integral part of the team, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for continuously looking for ways to improve each employee experience from providing exceptional employee and guest services to providing support and leadership for the Human Resources Department. To be aligned with HR initiatives and functions to achieve business objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Participates in development and implementation of HR policies and practices that will support the strategic growth of our business. Ensures compliance with all company policies including federal, state, and local laws. Makes recommendations for training, and performs continuous improvement on all recruitment and onboarding practices. Assists and advises in effectively managing employee relations issues within the hotel, including counseling of employment laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices. Also assists in facilitating effective communication methods and conducts thorough investigations to solve conflicts and determine resolution as directed. Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with all departmental policies, service procedures, and hotel standards. Provides support in the areas of employee relations, development and coaching, compensation, and organizational development. Fosters positive teamwork by working closely within the HR Division to review processes and offer suggestions to champion change. Assists in the implementation of company’s health and safety initiatives such as the Safety Committee/Safety Training, ensuring that all practices and procedures are undertaken in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements. Also monitors data and recommends appropriate action as needed. Maintains worker’s compensation program ensuring all reporting and claims are filed timely and accurately, including coordinating periodic worker’s compensation reviews with insurance companies to manage claims. Maintains and ensures compliance with OSHA, completing all required reporting as necessary. Assists in reviewing applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements. Maintains, coordinates and executes community related programs such as the Aloha United Way, Charity Walk, and Blood Bank of Hawaii Programs. Assists with planning and execution of special events such as holiday parties, retirement celebrations/gifts, Children’s Party, Pumpkin Carving. Facilitates HR Policies/Procedures and Safety portion of New Employee Experience for all new hires as requested. Contributes to the accuracy of maintaining all employee files, ensuring maintenance of new hire, termination, transfer, and promotion processes. Assists with Human Resources annual budget (Safety, Social, and Sport). Compiles HR monthly metrics report as requested. Creates and manages monthly newsletter. Assists with managing introductory and annual performance evaluations. Educates, coaches, and partners with managers on performance management and employee development goals. Adjusts payroll records, including rate, position, vacation, and sick leave hours as requested. Tracks Liquor Cards, First Aid/CPR certification, Hepatitis B Vaccination, and Respirator Program. Performs administrative duties such as creating check requests, reconciling bills, ensuring contracts and invoices from various vendors are tracked and paid. Maintains confidentiality of employee and hotel records. Attends designated meetings. Fosters and promotes a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale. Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of work areas at all times. Assists departmental staff as needed. Performs all other duties as may be required or assigned. SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS Reports To: Director of Human Resources Supervises: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years’ experience in Human Resources with demonstrated experience in employee relations, upscale hotel and/or work environments with 500 employees. Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, or any combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the minimum qualifications to perform the essential functions of this position. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS SHRM Certification/HR Certification helpful. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Ability to anticipate employee/guest needs; acknowledge, respond promptly. Familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions and activities to respond to inquiries accurately. Possess strong collaborative, interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills; strategic thinking; demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain professional business relationships, counsel staff, and presentations throughout multiple levels within the organization and general public. Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with Ceridian Dayforce or other HR programs is preferred. Ability to maintain positive employee and guest relations at all times. Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality as position will have access to sensitive information. Organized and meticulous attention to detail. Must have excellent project management skills and have the ability to prioritize work and resources. Ability to meet deadlines. Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and demonstrate superior customer service. Able to arrive to work on time and be ready to work as scheduled. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to endure various physical movements throughout the work areas. Ability to stand/walk for up to 1 – 2 hours throughout work shift. Maintain a stationary position for up to 8 hours throughout work shift. Able to work various days, times, holidays as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT Indoor, air-conditioned office Indoor/Outdoor, non-air conditioned Exposure to variable temperature conditions. Exposure to variable noise levels. Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, and/or odor hazards.
