Human Resources Manager develops human resources policies and programs and directs the staff in managing and implementing programs that support employee engagement, productivity, and company objectives. Manages key HR functions, including recruiting, employee/labor relations, health and safety, compensation, benefits, training, diversity, payroll, and employee records. Being a Human Resources Manager develops and delivers internal staff communications. Evaluates, selects, and manages relationships with vendors to provide supplemental HR processes and services. Additionally, Human Resources Manager maintains employee records of pay, benefits, accidents, performance, and other activities and files reporting required to comply with labor laws and regulations. Collaborates with leadership on special projects. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Human Resources Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager.     Job Summary

    Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day generalist functions as well as the benefit administration and leave management programs.  The Human Resources Manager is responsible for carrying-out human resources policies, procedures, and best practices while working with the team in advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion for a rapidly growing, multi-state firm.

    Work Performed and Job Requirements

    • Oversee daily HR generalist functions.
      • Supervise and lead the HR Specialist team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in their roles and responsibilities.
      • Assist with resolution of human resource questions, concerns, and issues.
      • Foster a positive, accountable, high performance, and collaborative work environment within the HR department.
        • Meet with team regularly to discuss strategies, processes, and continuous improvement.
      • Make recommendations for changes and/or additions to HR policies and procedures with company objectives and legal requirements.
        • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
      • Contribute to the development of HR strategies and objectives that align with the department and organizational’ s goals.
      • Carry out policies, procedures, and best practices relation to all phases of HR generalist activities.
      • Assist with leave of absence administration.
    • Manage the day-to-day administration of employee benefits offerings.
      • Oversee the day-to-day administration of benefits, including open enrollment, life event changes, and offboarding of benefits and COBRA offerings. Ensure accurate record keeping and data maintenance.
      • Monitor and analyze trends, benchmarks, and best practices to recommend improvements or modifications to benefit programs.
        • Prepare reports on benefit utilization, costs, and trends to senior HR leadership.
      • Communicate benefit plans to employees, conduct information sessions, update electronic communications and address inquires to ensure understanding and utilization of benefits.
      • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with legal regulations and internal policies.
    • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism always.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education/Training

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business management is required, with a concentration in Human Resource Management a plus.  Master’s degree in human resource management is strongly preferred.  SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is required. IFEBP certification is desired.

     

    Experience

    Minimum 5 – 7 years of experience with a mid-size employer (> 1,000 employees, less than 4,000 employees) in a dedicated HR role effectively overseeing an HR team - ideally within a multi-state environment is required (experience should include California).

     

    Additionally, a minimum of 5 years proven experience with employee benefits administration is necessary.  Experience with benefits administration in UKG is a plus.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of employee benefits laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.

    • Superior level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in human resource management.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
    • Strong listening and facilitation skills
    • Working knowledge of computer software to include MS Office
      • Robust, high-level skills with MS Excel
    • Proficiency with HRIS platforms such as UKG.
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
      • Solid time management skills
    • Ability to act with integrity and professionalism.
    • Ability to follow directions, problem-solve and provide resourceful thinking.
    • Ability to manage and effectively lead teams in multiple projects.

    • Ability to interpret multiple state laws and guidelines in conjunction with federal laws and guidelines.

    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee data with discretion and professionalism.

    Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment.  Work may be stressful at times. 

     

    Physical/Mental Demands

    Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
