General Statement of Duties
Performs a variety of specialized complex technical, administrative and customer service support functions related to the determination of eligibility of economically disadvantaged individuals and families for various federal, state and local public assistance and benefits programs; assists applicants with the preparation of forms; collects, verifies, enters and manages the data required to make eligibility determinations; screens and reviews applications; does related work as required.

Essential Duties
The person in this position possesses strong organization, time management and communication skills to complete the following essential duties:
- Manages some responsibilities related to eligibility determination & re-determination for benefits programs.
- Screens applicants for expedited services & explains how benefits are calculated.
- Conducts interviews for public assistance & helps determine eligibility by securing & verifying social, financial, and medical information.
- Assists with the completion of applications & submission of required forms.
- Works with clients and stakeholders to understand benefits programs and their requirements.
- Completes case opening, prepares case record and makes written recommendations on cases before assigning to eligibility.
- Works in multiple local and state databases to ensure client information is processed timely in their case record.
- Receives and resolves client inquiries and complaints related to situations such as benefits determination, policy interpretation, and self-sufficiency expectations.
- Communicates with clients in writing, in-person, and over the telephone
- Performs other administrative support functions to support the work of the division and department, including coverage for switchboard and the front desk as needed.
- Responds to County-wide emergencies and participates in sheltering duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED; prefer completion of relevant college coursework or degree and four (4) years of relevant administrative work, including customer service experience; including one (1) year of relevant work experience in an human services or related work environment; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Depending on experience, this position may be under filled as a Human Services Specialist I: Grade: HP.18, $39,616 - $72,875.
Additional Information
Central registry check and criminal history record check & fingerprinting are conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
May require a valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.
