Hyperbaric Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. Documents required treatment details including equipment settings, treatment duration, and patient response. Being a Hyperbaric Technician operates hyperbaric chamber and other hyperbaric support systems in accordance to all applicable safety standards and regulations. Performs cleaning of chamber and equipment according to infection control policies. Additionally, Hyperbaric Technician performs equipment checks and system maintenance. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Hyperbaric Technician works under moderate supervision.     Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients under supervision of our onsite Safety Director, as prescribed by our Hyperbaric Physician.

    • Performs duties under supervision of the Program Director, Safety Director, and/or Physician in Charge.
    • Responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems.
    • Responsible for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assists in patient preparation for treatment.
    • Reinforces education as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.
    • Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.
    • Performs duties and procedures as directed by Program Director, Safety Director and/or Medical Director.
    • Performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required.
    • Participates in the safety program.
    • Maintains competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.
    • Utilizing data software for record management.
    • Make appropriate entries for daily hyperbaric treatments.
    • Lift patient or transfer per local policy.
    • Need to be able to hear patients and staff. Also, listen to equipment for malfunctions.
    • Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99 – Hyperbaric Chapter, current edition, and with unit safety policies and procedures.
    • Evaluates hyperbaric chamber equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensures that they meet all safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.
    • Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gases.
    • Must be willing to travel to our New Smyrna location as needed

    Qualifications:

    • Current certification as CHT or CHS (interim status may be appointed until CHT or CHS certification is attained) or must be certified as a CHT or CHS within 1-year of stating date.
    • Complete a Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course pre or post hire; if pre hire the course completion must be within the past 5 years from date of hire post hire within one yr of employment.
    • Maintains and demonstrates competency in BLS (Basic Life Support Certification), infections control, safety and all unit required skill review.
    • Complete competencies skill checklist. Initial and Annually (post hire).

    2. Education/Experience:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

    Chamber operators must be a healthcare professional actively certified or licensed in one of the following vocations to meet the minimum education and experience requirements for Hyperbaric Certification.

    • Respiratory Therapist
    • Military: Corpsman or Medical Services Specialist
    • Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic
    • Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
    • Certified Hyperbaric Specialist
    • Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse
    • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
    • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist
    • Certified Nursing Assistant
    • Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist
    • Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant
    • Other allied healthcare professions as approved by the NBDHMT for certification eligibility
    • Individuals who have successfully completed U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) hyperbaric training.
    • E.g.

    1. U.S. Navy, Army, or Coast Guard Diver (1st Class, 2nd Class or Master Diver designation). Does not include Scuba (only) Diver
    2. U.S. Air Force Aerospace Physiology Specialist

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
