  • Thurston County Pretrial Services is adding an Operations Coordinator to the Resource Hub’s growing team.

    The Resource Hub is a drop-in resource center for people with behavioral health needs who are impacted by the justice system. Incumbents in this position are responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Resource Hub. They will work with the Program Manager to develop new, innovative ways to serve visitors of the Resource Hub. As the first engagement point for visitors to Resource Hub, the Operations Coordinator will interview and assess clients’ needs, determine needed community resources, and refer clients to identified resources. They will also maintain working relationships with the community, human and social service agencies to which clients may be referred (including Resource Hub provider partners), and other agencies in the criminal justice system and the community.
     
    Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
    • Provide knowledgeable direction to Resource Hub visitors and ensure timely connections to providers at the Resource Hub and in the community. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, establish and maintain relationships with service providers.
    • Collect and maintain donations, including food, clothing, Naloxone, and other items for distribution.
    • Perform administrative tasks such as updating the Resource Hub flyer and website maintenance.
    • Assist in the development of strategies and policies, as well as contribute to the expansion of Resource Hub goals and objectives.
    • Participate in stakeholder and community meetings as needed.
    • Assist in the development of outreach strategies.
    • Prepare reports and statistics; maintain and improve Hub data collection efforts.
    • Counsel Hub visitors who may be experiencing differing levels of distress, anxiety, anger, possible hostility, and other emotions and psychological responses. 
    • Occasionally provide services or accommodations to groups and/or special events outside of regular operating hours.

    • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in justice administration, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or a related field. 
    • Three (3) years of experience interviewing and counseling clients involved in the justice system.  Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work will be considered.
    • Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations related to client’s rights and the criminal justice and/or court system.
    • Thorough knowledge of procedures of the Superior, District, Municipal, and/or Juvenile Courts.
    • Thorough knowledge of available community counseling resources and programs.
    • Thorough knowledge of crisis intervention methods. 
    • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of interviewing and counseling. 
    • Knowledge of the dynamics of sexual and physical abuse. 
    • Ability to provide initial evaluation and counseling services to clients; assess people and situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; and conduct interviews to accurately assess client needs.    
    • Ability to provide ongoing support services to clients, and interpret and apply applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
    • Ability to appear for scheduled work and complete assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; prepare reports, maintain detailed records and make presentations; analyze and evaluate investigative material; and make sound decisions on difficult and unusual cases.   
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, other agencies, co-workers, and the general public. 
    • Must be able to meet all traveling requirements of the position and maintain a current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
     Desired Skills:
    • Lived experience with the criminal justice system, houselessness, and other hardships.
    • Knowledge of/experience with behavioral health issues.
    • Experience with therapeutic courts.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Experience working with stakeholders from various backgrounds and viewpoints.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Experience forming new strategies, techniques, and approaches to service delivery.
    • Experience in presenting proposals or information to government agencies.
    • Certified Peer Counselor certification.
    • Experience and formal training in De-escalation and Crisis intervention.
