  • The City of South Lake Tahoe is currently seeking a seasonal/limited duration position of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and asset management intern. This individual will work under the direct supervision of the GIS Analyst and be assigned tasks to support the Citywide GIS program, asset management system, and other Public Works projects. This position is also an opportunity to work for the City of South Lake Tahoe to assist with ongoing efforts to protect and restore the clarity of Lake Tahoe and be involved with the development of support systems for new mobility, sustainability, and recreation projects. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and have completed or be enrolled in a recognized curriculum at an institution of higher education in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), environmental sciences, computer science or closely related program.

    The ideal candidate will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamentals of GIS
    • Create maps using ArcGIS 10.x Desktop software or ArcGIS Pro - ArcGIS Pro preferred
    • Organize and edit data within a geodatabase
    • Use ArcGIS Online platform to create web maps, edit data, or make web apps
    • Read and interpret basic civil engineering and architectural drawings
    • Assist with inspections of storm drain systems and ongoing public works construction projects
    • Understand how to use a phone or tablet with GPS to collect or update GIS data
    • Work outdoors (collecting GPS data) and indoor (office) environments
    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
    • Work in a small team environment and take direction
    Requirements:
