Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Technical Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic technical direction at Merom Generating Station. The position will lead a multi-disciplined Technical Team providing support to the station and will be a member of the station’s Leadership Team. Responsible for all technical activities at the stations including development and implementation of a technical plan to support Operations, Maintenance, Construction, Thermal Performance, Water Chemistry and Environmental. Providing leadership and direction to the station’s technical employees is a core responsibility to the position. The position is responsible for directing the technical objectives to safely achieve a high degree of reliability, maximum plant efficiency, and availability to promote profitability. The position will report directly to the Merom General Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide proactive leadership in safety at the station to improve overall safety culture.

Provide Technical support for the stations Process Safety Management Program.

Serve as the station Technical Authority.

Provide strategic technical direction to the Station’s Management Team. Serve as an active member of the team and contribute towards the station’s success. Develop, implement, manage, and communicate the station’s technical plan and revise as appropriate.

Direct the technical team to achieve business targets including those identified within the annual station plan, annual station operating goals, and station projects that involve technical direction and support.

Provide direction to the station’s technical team members to promote technical advancement of the station and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- The position is responsible for completion of capital and O&M projects requiring engineering as well as ensuring new technical projects are sound and profitable meeting the plant’s and owners’ current and future needs.

Provide leadership for all engineering activities to ensure proper direction and coordination.

Work directly with the Operations and Maintenance Managers to support thermal performance activities ensuring that the monitoring and recording of performance of station systems are accurately performed and timely results are communicated.

The position is responsible for oversight of the station water and chemistry areas and other targets as identified in the Business Plan. The position is accountable for ensuring that environmental regulations are met and that all water treating and waste water treating, and Flue Gas Desulfurization equipment is technically supported.

Participation as an active member in the development of future environmental strategies at the station is expected.

Evaluate the developmental needs of the technical staff and provide opportunities to promote their individual growth.

Maintain a high degree of reliability and availability of equipment.
Qualifications and Skills:
-
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred. A Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power plant operations / maintenance, power plant engineering or field service is required. Five years of managerial / supervisory experience is required.

Working Conditions

Position requires reporting to the station and is not remote, or ‘work from home’ eligible.

Power plant environment including working out of doors, working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations.
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid driver's license is required.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to inspect, assess condition or collect data.
- Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 200 feet.
- Requires availability to support emergent issues that occur nights, weekends, Holidays, etc. and participate in the Manager ‘on call’ rotation.
