    IT Manager II – Asset Management

    Reports to: Executive Director – IT Infrastructure
    Pay Grade: 506
    Duty Days: 239

    Position Purpose

    Provides desktop/laptop management and user support for computer systems, mobile devices, printers, and software, for students and staff. Oversees the procurement and management of laptops, monitors, and related IT equipment. Manages the delivery and warranty of purchased or leased equipment and provides recommendations to improve current software license purchasing and management processes. Oversees images, installation, and deployment of hardware with minimal technical escalations resulting in seamless end user experience. Develops and executes strategies for on/offboarding, device refresh programs, and asset management. Balances the efficiency of support with maintaining the highest standard of quality and customer service.

    Managing large projects, coordinating planning, procurement, installation, support activities, and tracking of physical IT equipment. Manages a team responsible for organizing, streamlining, and executing employee on/offboarding. Modernizes the full lifecycle management for delivery, maintenance, and decommissioning of IT assets. Provides basic technical support, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining equipment relative to the designated MDM, Active Directory, designated enterprise messaging system, various device hardware, and device operating systems.
    Oversees the management and optimization of the district’s technology assets. Maintains accurate inventories of computers, peripherals, and technology equipment. Collaborates with various campuses and oversees a team to ensure seamless distribution, tracking, and retrieval of devices. Implements efficient inventory management processes, conducts regular audits, and provides reports to inform decision-making. Contributes to the effective utilization of technology resources, supporting the district's educational mission by ensuring that all devices are accounted for, properly maintained, and strategically deployed.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Device Refresh

    • Plans, engineers, coordinates, tests and manages device installations.
    • Troubleshoots, repairs, and provides logistical support for existing devices.
    • Provides support on hardware and software that is procured, developed, maintained, and delivered.
    • Plans, schedules and ensures execution of large-scale equipment upgrades to current technologies.
    • Develops and implements a clear technology device refresh plan including assessment of current technology and age, identification of new technology, communication with stakeholders, testing, implementation, and evaluation.
    • On/Offboarding Process Management
    • Ensures ticketing system workflow initiates the on boarding process and asset acquisition during the offboarding process.
    • Ensure student and staff on/off boarding process workflow is separate.
    • Procures, prepares, and tests hardware.
    • Oversees installation of software and system setup access; verifies installation of the correct image/profile.
    • Ensures a seamless end-user experience via communication and documentation of IT orientation and training opportunities, cybersecurity awareness, and IT resources and tools for tech-related questions.

    Asset Management

    • Establishes and maintains accurate records in inventory system of computers, peripherals, and related equipment, tracking their location, status, and condition.
    • Coordinates the efficient distribution and retrieval of technology assets, collaborating with campus teams to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
    • Conducts regular audits of the technology inventory to verify accuracy, identify discrepancies, and ensure compliance with current records.
    • Creates and updates comprehensive documentation related to device distribution and retrieval.
    • Generates and provides reports on computer inventory status, trends, and recommendations.
    • Implements strategies for the proper lifecycle management of computer assets, including disposal or recycling when necessary.
    • Interacts with vendors to facilitate the procurement and maintenance of technology assets, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
    • Provides direction for team and guides them through asset management best practices.
    • Ensures that the asset management team commits to achievable and realistic device configuration and deployment goals.

    Safety

    • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
    • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

    • Knowledge of systems administration, enterprise web applications, servers, databases, virtualization, active directory, LDAP, cloud/on prem services, etc.
    • Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Knowledge and understanding of relevant local, state, and federal legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
    • Skill in maintaining structured and accessible records of computer assets and related documentation.
    • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
    • Skill in written and oral communication skills including ability to interact with and influence all levels of district service center and campus staff.
    • Ability to implementing and ensure adherence to the most current ITIL processes and standards.
    • Ability to manage technology processes for onboarding and offboarding.
    • Ability to support applications on devices for a broad spectrum of operating systems.
    • Ability to manage the planning, provisioning, and delivery of information technology services to large organizations.
    • Ability to achieve and report on Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLA).
    • Ability to accurately track and manage a large inventory of computers and related equipment.
    • Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, including IT teams, procurement, and other departments, to coordinate inventory-related activities.
    • Ability to conduct audits, identify discrepancies, and analyze trends in computer inventory data.
    • Ability to design, organize, and track work plans, create appropriate working and decision-making processes, ensure stakeholders are engaged, and support the work itself.
    • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and interpret data, to summarize for technical and non-technical employees and senior management.
    • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    • Education: (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below)
    • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required;
    • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
    • Certification/License: None.
    • Experience: 4-8 years’ experience in asset management.
