As Controller, you will lead HG’s accounting team by demonstrating technical expertise and practicing our core values.

• Technical Expertise: Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting department operational functions. Manage the accumulation and compilation of all financial data necessary for accurate accounting of consolidated business results. Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements. Lead annual budget process, independent accountants review, and the annual valuation of HG.
• Leadership & Team Management: Lead and direct the activities of the accounting team by providing educational opportunities and mentoring that support career development and effective performance of their respective job duties. Be a role model of HG and its core values. Influence associates throughout HG by supporting the development & growth of others outside your team.
• Communication: Communicate financial operating results and trends effectively across all levels of the organization in a constructive way that maintains transparency and fosters trusting relationships with internal stakeholders. Build and maintain strong partnerships with carriers, clients, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
• Planning & Organization: Establish, prioritize, and organize tasks and objectives in order to manage time and resources appropriately. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• Five to ten years of senior financial management experience required. 
• Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification desired.
• Knowledge of insurance industry accounting practices desired. 
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required. 

Working Conditions:

• Position will be headquartered in our Madison, Wisconsin office.
• As a leader in our Madison office, the expectation is that this position will work in the company office with the ability work from home occasionally. 
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Occasional travel between offices locations.
