    Arts Division Overview:

    The Arts Division offers both creative and critical studies of art and culture at the undergraduate and graduate level. The division is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all students to thrive and to celebrating the abundance of diversity in our community. We build our students' capacity for creative and critical thinking. Instruction in the arts inspires and develops the skills needed for individual and collaborative thought, analysis, and action within and beyond the university. Our faculty consists of artists, performers, historians, critics, makers, and theorists working across the arts in a global context, and addressing some of the most pressing issues of our day.

    Undergraduate education in the arts includes bachelor of arts (B.A.) programs in art, art and design: games and playable media, film and digital media, history of art and visual culture, music, and theater arts, and a bachelor of music (B.M.). There are also concentrations offered in film and digital media (integrated critical practice), history of art and visual culture (curation, heritage, and museums), and music (contemporary practices; western art music; and global musics). Minors are offered in film and digital media, history of art and visual culture, electronic music, jazz, spontaneous composition, and improvisation, western art music, theater arts, and dance.

    Graduate programs include the environmental art and social practice master of fine arts (M.F.A.), the interdisciplinary digital arts and new media master of fine arts (M.F.A.), the social documentation master of fine arts (M.F.A.), the music master of arts (M.A.), and the theater arts master of arts (M.A.). Doctoral programs include the music composition doctor of musical arts (D.M.A.), and Ph.D. programs in music, visual studies, and film and digital media.

    The Divisional Services portion of Academic Services consists of localized ITS staff embedded in the campus' five academic divisions and library who provide personalized, discipline-specific, IT support for their constituents in service of the academic mission. We leverage commonalities through cross-divisional technical communities to develop and deliver right-sized/right-priced common services as appropriate, aggregating what we learn to provide as input to the larger ITS community. This position provides strategic direction, technical leadership, human and resource management to develop and deliver IT services to BSOE and its departments and programs. Incumbent works as part of a collaborative leadership team that delivers coordinated IT services to faculty across the five academic divisions, libraries, and the silicon valley center.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Arts IT Manager is a leader for IT professionals who supports the Arts Division at UC Santa Cruz. The position works to understand the IT needs of Arts and to plan, coordinate, and manage the delivery of IT services to meet those needs. Effective candidates will demonstrate both breadth and depth of expertise aligned to the arts. The Arts IT Manager also plays a primary role in working to ensure synergy between the division and ITS by working cooperatively with local IT staff in the Academic Divisions.

    The Arts IT Manager works collaboratively with the Dean of Arts and is aware of Divisional priorities and how those can be most effectively advanced through ITS acting as a facilitator ensuring that ITS is clearly understood and that the academic division is well served. The primary ability of the Arts IT Manager is to build trust and relationships with people in every facet of the organization.

    Salary Information: Salary Range: $93,200 - $118,000/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

    JOB DUTIES

    50% - Systems Analysis
    • Analyzes the IT needs of the Arts Division in consultation with the Arts Dean and Arts Leadership team to establish priorities for systems design and implementation to develop innovative IT solutions for common technology challenges, as well as customized IT solutions for the division.
    • Oversees staff managing a large number of systems that utilize one of three environments, Mac,Windows, and Unix.
    • Directs the maintenance, evaluation and implementation of an evolving portfolio of standard computing tools and software including:
      • Digital art-making tools.
      • Desktop support and personalized consulting.
      • Specialized spaces for arts-specific work.
      • Web-design, development and hosting.
      • Performance and exhibition support.
      • Administrative Systems design and support.
    • Leads continual service improvement of shared service delivery and product development within Arts, Academic Services, and in partnership with other ITS units.
    • Evaluates systems for emerging needs, modifications, expanded utilization with centralized provisions, and retirement of services.
    • Leads local IT services to the academic division or potentially larger communities in response to the needs of the division.
    • Ensures security compliance of Arts IT resources.

    30% - Divisional Liaison
    • Develops relationships with the Arts Dean and divisional staff to understand and respond to their needs, guide change and resolve conflicts related to IT services. Acts as a liaison through a highly consultative and consensus-building style that furthers trust and empathy
    • Represents Arts in campus-wide IT initiatives, planning, standards and policy setting, operational governance, and prioritization to inform processes within Academic Services.
    • Manages operational efficiencies, achieve instructional and research goals, and keeps a constant compass focused on the Academic Mission in the best interest of the division.
    • Serves as the technical Unit Information Security Lead for the Arts Division.
    • Develops and monitors operational and budget processes, finance, and space planning.

    20% - Staff Supervision
    • Hires staff, evaluates performance, delegates day-to-day operations, recommends reclassifications / pay increases, and initiates performance management and disciplinary action, if necessary.
    • Conducts regular meetings with direct reports ensuring they are kept informed of relevant information as it pertains to their job.
    • Schedules work assignments and monitors staff to ensure Arts Division's needs are met.


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.
    • Broad working knowledge of the applications programming development function.
    • Thorough knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
    • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
    • Deep knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles.
    • Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.
    • Experience leading change management activities and managing their impact across the unit or department.
    • Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a commitment to embracing diversity in all its forms and striving for an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened, and productive environment.
    • Ability to use and apply Information Technology theories and concepts to manage and provide solutions.
    • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.
    • Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within the technical environment.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • 2-5 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
    • Agile Leadership Certification.
    • Service Management, Product Management, or Project Management certifications of any kind.
    • The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification.
    • Six Sigma/Lean.


    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
