    Hiring Produce Company: Ocean Mist Farms

    The Quality Assurance Manager will lead and manage Quality Assurance activities across all Ocean Mist Farms locations. Responsible for upholding product standards, overseeing inspections, and ensuring accurate reporting. This role involves staff supervision, feedback, disciplinary communication, performance reviews, and training under general supervision.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Oversee and Control all In-House Inspections and Reporting

    • Oversee team members daily activities; such as, product quality inspections including field pack, value-added and transfers from other locations for California, Arizona and Mexico.
    • Maintain and develop quality standards for production, cooling processes, and new products including all pack styles.
    • Create and establish quality benchmarks for emerging products.
    • Collaborate in formulating and enhancing the shelf-life program for value-added products.
    • Manage daily inspections for each commodity and lot.
    • Provide daily internal reports on packaging, visual aesthetics, color, and overall product condition.

    Staff Management

    • Lead hiring, evaluation, training, mentoring, and development of the internal QA team.
    • Advocate and ensure quality standards throughout the entire process, from field operations through cooling to the shipping phase.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Monitor and interface with outside inspectors and published reporting services.
    • In collaboration with the food safety department, uphold food safety standards.
    • Administer and drive the quality incentive program.
    • Work with the Product Development Manager as requested to create new products.
    • Work with the marketing department to facilitate tours and prepare customer product presentation set up.

    Field-related duties

    • Collaborate with field teams to implement and refine quality control measures during harvesting and field operations.
    • Conduct regular on-site inspections to assess crop quality and adherence to standards.
    • Work closely with harvest crews to address and resolve any quality concerns promptly.
    • Provide guidance on proper handling techniques in the field to maintain product integrity.
    • Implement and oversee training programs for field staff to enhance their understanding of quality standards and procedures.
    • Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement among field teams.
    • Actively participate in the development of field-specific quality initiatives and improvement projects.

    Other

    • Travel every other week to various locations, including but not limited to Coachella, Oxnard, and Yuma to oversee and support quality assurance activities in different operational settings.

    Job Requirements and Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree with agriculture courses is highly desired.
    • Bachelor’s degree with agriculture major is preferred. Requires continuing education in supervision, quality assurance, and other job-related areas.
    • One – three years of experience as a Harvest Crew Leader is highly desired. One – three years employee supervisory experience is preferred.
    • Ability to read, write and speak in an English capacity at a proficient level is required; bilingual in English/Spanish is highly desired; basic math and reading skills is required.
    • Ability to operate a company vehicle and maintain a current and valid CA driver’s license and be insurable.
    • Ability to travel and work at our remote areas – Castroville, Huron, Oxnard, Coachella, Yuma and Mexico.
    • Office equipment to be used (not inclusive list): telephone, computer keyboard, photocopy machine, fax, 10-key calculator and other office equipment. Able to correctly use radio frequency handheld devices is required.

    Salary Range: $88,000 – $109,000
