About us: Golden Lighting, a nationally recognized brand, is a growing company of about 40 employees specializing in the design and manufacture of residential lighting products. We are a privately held company (not a publicly traded one), which means we make business decisions that benefit our employees and customers instead of focusing on increasing the share value of outside investors. We are also not a start-up company that could close shop if the next round of venture capital doesn't come through. One of our core values is being innovative within our industry, and we are constantly researching new product trends, more streamlined ways of operating, and new technologies to develop. As we continue to expand our operation, we find ourselves needing to add to our design team.

About the position: We’re looking for a self-starting and creative Junior Industrial Designer to support our fast-paced product launch cycle under the guidance of the Senior Industrial Designer. We pride ourselves on crafting a range of residential light fixtures that are new, on-trend, and value-conscious. The Junior Industrial Designer will contribute to the creation and development of new products from concept generation to manufacturing. Design background, CAD experience, attention to detail, creativity, and an understanding and love of home fashion will be crucial for success in this position. This position has numerous opportunities for professional growth as the company continues to expand.

We think you'll be a good fit for the role if you:

    • Are excited by the prospect of touching a product from initial concept development to manufacturing
    • Enjoy cross-department collaboration, as well as the opportunity to speak directly with manufacturers and vendors
    • Are comfortable with interpreting design instruction and applying changes to drafts
    • Are naturally curious, and enjoy using your creativity to solve problems, answer questions, and make suggestions
    • Look forward to growing your design skills through mentorship
    • Are looking for a long-term career with a financially stable company

If this sounds like you, please read on!

Essential Tasks of the Junior Industrial Designer:

    • Collaborating with Golden Lighting’s design team on the development and release of new products
    • Ensuring that manufacturability is incorporated into product designs
    • Creating and editing sketches, CAD drawings, 3D models, and prototypes throughout the design life cycle
    • Producing final drawings for vendors and product specification using CAD
    • Using feedback from vendors and customer comments to improve fixture quality, usability, form, functionality, and installation
    • Producing final design solutions for expanding existing product collections
    • Providing consistent compliance with UL, CUL, or CSA standards
    • Pitching creative ideas for new products based on market analysis
    • Identifying new technologies and materials to incorporate into designs
    • Working with vendors to introduce new products

This job might be for you if you:

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, for example: industrial design, interior design, art, product design, furniture design, lighting design, or architecture
    • Have two (2) years of professional design experience beyond school
    • Have experience manipulating vector files using a CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar (preferred)
    • Are comfortable doing graphics work within Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign
    • Have a keen eye for design and an understanding of design principles, ideally within home fashion
    • Have a strong ability to communicate ideas and concepts through hand sketching or prototyping
    • Have experience managing projects in Monday.com (preferred) or some other project management software
    • Have the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
    • Demonstrate initiative, are conscientious, and provide complete follow-through on areas of responsibility
    • Have prior experience working with Asian manufacturers and working knowledge of their customs and cultural differences (preferred)
    • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Are self-motivated and have a strong work ethic
    • Have the confidence to solve problems and be creative
    • Have the ability to build excellent working relationships internally and externally to achieve goals
    • Are able to effectively communicate your thoughts and ideas
    • Can successfully pass a background check and drug screening

Here at Golden Lighting, we understand that highly satisfied employees are key to a thriving business. This is why we offer:

    • A workplace culture that supports collaboration, teamwork, and professional growth
    • Competitive annual salary that is commensurate with experience (salary expectations will be discussed very early in the application process)
    • 90% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance (available first of the month after 60 days of FT employment, family plans are available too)
    • 100% employer-paid life insurance (up to $50,000, with the option to purchase additional coverage)
