General Summary

The Dental Hygienist provides educational, preventive, and therapeutic services administering oral hygiene within the scope of current Nebraska law and other applicable regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs and demonstrates dental hygiene services including taking accurate radiographs, dental prophylaxis, periodontal therapy and maintenance, administration of local anesthetics, placement of sealants, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene assessment and instruction, patient management, maintaining patient recurring care (recall) systems, and other dental tasks.
2. Ensures treatment rooms, dental instruments, equipment, and materials necessary are in place for effective and efficient patient care while following all appropriate asepsis procedures.
3. Maintains accurate documentation in patient records.
4. Provides patient education, post-operative instruction, and other information regarding care to patients or callers as needed.
5. Ensures efficiency in clinic flow via room turn-around, sterilization, stocking, and cleaning.
6. Provides assistance, support, and relief to other dental team members with clinical, administrative, clerical, or business duties or other projects as necessary.
7. Performs office and clerical procedures relative to patient records, appointments, and fees.
8. Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
9. Other duties as assigned.

• Must have a valid Nebraska driver’s license and provide proof of personal driver’s insurance and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
• Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the State of Nebraska is required.
• Must have current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).

• Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to address clinic’s needs.
• Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
• Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills are highly desired.
• Knowledge and excellent understanding of dental hygiene practice and protocol.
• Ability to operate sterilizer, various dental instruments, and x-ray equipment.
• Ability to navigate Dentrix.
