SUMMARY

To plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and coordinate the total staff development education program and new hire orientation in accordance with state and federal regulations and oversee the Infection Prevention program. SPICE or CDC certification req'd (must be Able to obtain certification within 3 months of hire)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation orientation for all new employees, inclusive of policies, procedures, and philosophy of care.

• Provides hands-on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed and unlicensed personnel.

• Coordinates all new employee general and specific jobs training prior to assuming job duties.

• Assesses resident needs in relation to staff abilities and designs training programs based on the needs assessment.

• Assures clinical competency of nursing staff through skill evaluation.

• Assures educational curriculum offered in the facility complies with state, federal, and accreditation requirements.

• Coordinates basic supervisory skill training for department managers and charge nurses.

• Coordinates continuing education programs.

• Provides resident/family education/teaching resources as required.

• Plans, implements, and coordinates state and federally required in-service programs designed to develop and improve the skills of all facility personnel.

• Coordinates immunization program.

• Maintains records as required by facility, state, and federal agencies.

• Monitor the professional nurses licensing status, and CNA listings to ensure that they remain current.

• Assists in coordinating quality assurance activities for the nursing department.

• Must be flexible to work various time to ensure all shifts are recievign required education. Will alternate with other RN’s for on-call coverage.

• Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)

• Coordinates immunization program for all residents.

• Accepts on call rotation.

• Assists, as designated, in the event of or in preparation for a disaster, including staying at facility overnight to ensure patient safety and/or evacuating with patients.

Tracking and reporting facility infection rates and antibiotic stewardship

• Assist in any other duties assigned by DON, admin.
