Prepares simple cultures as needed for environmental and individual studies. Additionally, Infection Control Coordinator evaluates sterilization and disinfection methods and recommends changes as necessary. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Coordinator contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Be a part of something new! The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility is being stood up by Washington State’s Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Health Care Authority with generous support from MultiCare and Seattle Children’s Hospital. 
    The infection Control Nurse reports to the Director of Nursing and partners with the Executive Leadership to promote sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices. You will be accountable for decreasing the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases between residents, staff, visitors, and the community through collaborative policy and procedure development.  The Infection Control Nurse plays a key role in maintaining
    regulatory compliance and may require some scheduled observations, training, evenings, and weekends, as conditions dictate.

    The facility will open with 12 beds and 108 full-time employees with potential growth to 24 beds and 196 full-time employees. 

    The property was designed with children and youth in mind and features accessible spaces for onsite educational services and therapies, as well as access to outdoor space. The voluntary facility will initially serve 12 youth. 

    This new therapeutic facility is slated to open in July to help youth, age 13 and older, with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder.  

    Shift is M-F, 8-5

     
    Some of what you will do

    • Ensure and is accountable for all policies and procedures related to infection control are operationalized for the facility. Promotes sound and scientific prevention principles and practices
    • Maintain professional standards and accountability, licensure, Infection Preventionist, APIC member, maintains professional relationship with Local Health Jurisdiction and Executive Medical Officer
    • Responsible for the Antibiotic Stewardship Program all required infectious disease reporting, all pandemic, DOH and required reporting. Promptly notifies facility leadership of concerns
    • Responsible for the evaluation, investigation, communication, collaboration of infectious or communicable disease concerns on facility grounds and need to initiate transmission-based precaution. This is required 24/7 as needed
    • In charge of the Infection Control Program and committee meetings at the facility and serves as the liaison between staff development to communicate and education safety and staff wellness topics
    •  Infection Control Nurse is responsible for the identification, reporting, investigation, and control of communicable diseases for youth, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other individuals providing services for the facility
    • Provide clinical and technical support, direction, and feedback to staff in a timely manner
    • New employees training for the Infection Control Program and employee wellness specifically to bloodborne pathogens, TB Screening, HEP B, and Vaccinations
    • Participate in annual competency testing of nursing staff around infection control principles
    • Direct and ensure Tuberculosis (TB) screening and blood-borne pathogen training is completed and current for all staff
    • Maintain updated training curriculum, obtains feedback, meet industry standards
    • Maintain proper training records in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
    What we are looking for

    • A valid Washington State license to practice as a registered, professional nurse.
      Desirable Qualifications

      Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing

      AND

      two years of professional nursing experience.

      OR

      Equivalent education/experience.

       

    Preferred Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to work within a team and resolve personal conflicts in a calm, non-threatening manner.
    • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
    • Experience working with psychiatric Youth/Children.
    • Knowledgeable of psychiatric symptoms.
    • Ability to teach, coach, and mentor other.
