Infection Control Manager develops and implements infection control policies designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks in the facility. Develops and implements facility-wide infection prevention and control measures to protect patients, staff and visitors. Being an Infection Control Manager monitors patient care for compliance with established standards and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related education to staff. Additionally, Infection Control Manager complies with state, federal and Joint Commission standards relating to infection control. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Washington Veterans Home

    Here is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door as a State Employee! Our team is excited to announce we now have a position opening for a full-time, non-permanent Infection Control Nurse (Registered Nurse 3) at the Washington Veterans Home in scenic Port Orchard, Washington! This is a project position expected to last no more than six months.

    Please Note: Scheduled shift will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Incumbent may be required to work mandatory overtime up to eight hours and may also be required to adjust work hours as necessary to meet program needs.

    • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step T. Step U has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

    Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

    As the Infection Control Nurse for the Washington Veterans Home, you will provide professional nursing services including infection control training, technique demonstration, system implementation, data gathering and analysis, and developing and maintaining a comprehensive Infection Control Program for the Home. You will work collaboratively with medical providers, nursing staff, department managers, and leadership to ensure all regulatory requirements regarding infection control are met.

    Duties

    Some of what you'll be doing includes:


    • Planning, developing, directing, implementing, and evaluating the facility-wide infection prevention program and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Collecting, reporting, and presenting statistical information regarding infection control and other quality measures.
    • Maintaining Antibiotic (ABO) Stewardship program by monitoring appropriate use of ABOs and summarizing ABO use monthly.
    • Maintaining an active surveillance program to determine incidents of infections.
    • Supervising the infection control services of residents, visitors, and staff.
    • Conducting training sessions to ensure constant implementation of infection control policies.

    Qualifications

    Required:


    • Currently holds a valid Registered Nurse Licence.
    • Two (2) years of experience as a Licensed Nurse.
    • Knowledge of LTC (long-term care) regulations.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Strong computer skills with mastery of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts.

    Preferred/Desired:
    • Bachelor's degree involving major study in nursing.
    • Currently holds a valid Registered Nurse license from the state of Washington.
    • Certification or advanced training in infection control.
    • Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.
    • Recent experience in infection control.
    • Training and supervisory experience.
    • Ability to provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychological needs.
    • Ability to earn trust, respect and confidence of residents, coworkers, and customers through consistent honestly, forthrightness, and professionalism in all interactions.
