Infection Control Manager develops and implements infection control policies designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks in the facility. Develops and implements facility-wide infection prevention and control measures to protect patients, staff and visitors. Being an Infection Control Manager monitors patient care for compliance with established standards and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related education to staff. Additionally, Infection Control Manager complies with state, federal and Joint Commission standards relating to infection control. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff; serves as
    a resource to all departments and personnel; implements programs to protect the healthcare
    workers, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment, sets and recommends policies and
    procedures to prevent adverse events; provides internal and external reporting of information and
    data; promotes compliance with regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements.

    Medical Center's fiscal viability and: •

    Minimum Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required:

    Current MT state license as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, or medical technologist or
    has equivalent healthcare experience.
    Completion of a basic training program for infection prevention preferred.
    Certification in infection prevention preferred.
    Ability to develop policies and procedures.
    Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance.
    CPR at Healthcare provider level.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

    1 Monitors healthcare-associated infections

    2 Assesses infection prevention problems and makes recommendations for corrective action

    3 Prepares the agenda for the infection prevention committee

    4 Oversees the monitoring of infection prevention practices for all departments and personnel

    5 Initiates, reviews, and revises infection prevention policies and procedures

    6 Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures

    7 Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law

    8 Provides educational offerings for orientation and ongoing in-services

    9 Consults with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care

    10 Initiates follow-up on employee/patient exposures to communicable diseases and employee
    compliance



    PREVENTIONIST


    11 Serves as a resource for all departments and staff as needed

    12 Participates in performance improvement activities

    13 Participates in short and long-range planning for the infection prevention department

    14 Performs other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    Can work independently and in a focused manner on infectious disease control and policy
    development.
    Has functional understanding of the pathophysiologic basis of infectious agents and their impact on
    morbidity and mortality in outpatient, inpatient and long-term care contexts.
    Able to collect data and compute statistically meaningful representations of infectious disease and
    program intervention results/trends.
    Familiarity with adult education strategies to be employed in staff education.
    OCCUPATIONAL EPOSURE for this position:

    Category I Direct contact with blood or other bodily fluid to which universal
    precautions apply

    Category II Activity performed without blood/bodily fluids exposure, but
    exposure may occur in emergency

    Category III Task/activity does not ordinarily entail predictable exposure to
    blood/bodily fluids
