Infection Control Manager develops and implements infection control policies designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks in the facility. Develops and implements facility-wide infection prevention and control measures to protect patients, staff and visitors. Being an Infection Control Manager monitors patient care for compliance with established standards and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related education to staff. Additionally, Infection Control Manager complies with state, federal and Joint Commission standards relating to infection control. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Infection Prevention Nurse, reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention, is responsible for identifying, preventing, and controlling healthcare-related infections in compliance with established protocols. This role involves daily surveillance, data analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.


    Key Responsibilities:


    • Develop and implement infection prevention/control policies and procedures, including staff, provider, and patient education.
    • Review, record, analyze, and report data on hospital and long-term care-acquired infections, multi-drug-resistant organisms, outbreaks, and communicable disease threats.
    • Develop and implement employee health programs and policies, including pre-employment physicals, immunization records, TB tests, and annual health assessments.
    • Participate in various committees as directed.
    • Record and follow up on work-related injuries, assisting with modified duty/return-to-work programs as needed.
    • Provide infection prevention resources, information, and data to department heads, physicians, and medical staff members.
    • Conduct annual risk assessments and contribute to the development of Infection Control Plans for different care settings.
    • Participate in Infection Control Risk Assessments for construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Investigate outbreaks and report findings to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as required for both Acute Care and Extended Care Facilities.

    Education:


    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.


    Experience:


    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Infection Prevention preferred.


    Licenses and Certification:


    • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.


    Required Skills and Abilities:


    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
    • Knowledge of infection control protocols and regulatory standards.


    Physical Requirements:


    • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
    • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and manual dexterity.
