Infrastructure Services Analyst

The award-winning Alameda County Information Technology Department (ITD) is hiring an Infrastructure Services Analyst.

DESPCRIPTION
Our current environment supports Physical and VMware virtual servers, mainly MS Windows servers and some Red Hat Linux servers. The platform contains the services also supported by the role, such as JBoss, Apache and Dot Net IIS web services. In addition, the role will support backend services for client applications such as Office365, Azure IAAS, Route53 and infrastructure tools such as monitoring, alerting, and reporting applications. Has responsibility for end-to-end from inception to implementation and ongoing support, including Project Management.

Job Duties include:

• Supports higher level infrastructure staff with ongoing countywide project management activities; may serve as a lead over smaller projects.
• Participates in, and may lead, the high level technical configuration and incident troubleshooting of systems.
• Participates in, and may lead, the plans and activities around systems maintenance best practices and systems optimization.
• Assists with the daily maintenance of select production systems within network, server, and office technologies, including but not limited to implementing security patches and updates, reviewing logs, defining disaster recovery schedules, monitoring up-time of services.
• Participates in and may develop initiatives contributing to an innovative and strategically aligned team.
• Creates and maintains system procedural and technical documentation including project statuses and adding sufficient resolution notes to assigned tickets.
• Assists with the planning, recommendation, and implementation of changes to operating system platforms, system hardware and related technologies in support of organizational goals.
• Coordinates with vendors to resolves technical issues.
• Identifies and implements opportunities to improve processing and maintenance efficiency.
• Provides support and assists in training lower level staff.
• May attend trainings, seminars, and programs to remain current on IT industry trends.
• Windows / Linux – Proficient in MS Excel for data manipulation and analyzing to assist troubleshooting. Knowledge of Active Directory and File Management. Understanding of common troubleshooting procedures for Windows related issues when working with both physical and virtual servers. Basic knowledge of Windows security features and practices to ensure data and system integrity.
• Power Shell Scripting
• Azure Services – Working with Azure services such as Storage Accounts, Virtual Machines, Resource Groups, Virtual Networks, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Microsoft server 2016-2022 admin and Active Directory tasks such as RBAC, GPOs, etc.
• F5 load balancing rules, pools, protocols TMSH scripts and SSL certificates.
• Script skills in bash or other Linux shells, PowerShell, and PowerShell on Linux.
• Create and maintain automation scripts.
• Use tools such as GitHub
• Dell Server hardware platforms and storage technologies, SMB and NFS share configuration.
• Dell OpenManage monitoring and iDrac remote OOB management.
• Vmware vSphere, PowerCli, ESXi esxtop, VM cloning, patching, templates and vRA automation.
• Troubleshooting network connections with tcpdump, WireShark, iperf, nmap, traceroute etc.
• Secure IT mindset and tools such as AntiVirus, 2fa, using ssh keys, creating SSL certificates.
• Differentiate between best practices, common practices.
• Use of an AD Auditing tool such as Netwrix, Varonis, or Quest.
• Administrator support for FTP/SFTP end users
• Administrator support for enterprise level badge systems
• Storage solutions such as Dell Unity, Nasuni, Compellent, and Azure Storage

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I

Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time increasingly responsible infrastructure experience (in one or more of the areas described in the Description section), that included documentation and project management activities. (Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.)

OR II

Experience: The equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in the class of Infrastructure Services Technician in the Alameda County classified service.                      

Special Requirements:

• Must be available to work after hours, weekends and holidays.
