  • The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Medical Information & Services Assistant position at the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska.
    What you will be doing:
    The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
    • Medical Record Clerk.
    • Requests, scan and faxes medical records.
    • Handles confidential information.
    • Extract pertinent medical information.
    • Maintain patient medical records.
    • Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of the inmates.
    • Be team oriented.
    • Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner.

    Goose Creek Correctional Center is a combined sentenced and unsentenced medium-security classification facility with a total of 1535 beds. Goose Creek provides a variety of medical services, with both a clinic and 16 bed infirmary on-site. Under the general supervision of the Medical Office Nursing Supervisor and Inmate Health Care Office (IHCO), provides Medical Records administrative support for Goose Creek Medical Clinic. Serves as liaison in the clinic with security, probation and law enforcement agencies as well as community medical offices and case management services.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of specific experience in a medical office, clinic, or healthcare facility providing such clerical support services as reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, preparing and retrieving information from electronic or hard copy medical files while maintaining confidentiality, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence.
    OR
    Three years of general clerical experience that includes clerical tasks such as performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence. This experience may be met by service as an Office Assistant 1 or its equivalent with another employer.

    Substitution:
    Either an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Health Information Technology or closely related field of study or a certificate of successful completion from an accredited program in medical transcription or medical coding may substitute for two years of the requisite experience.

    Special Note:
    Some positions in this class may require successfully passing a background check per AS 47.05.300 - 47.05.390 and 7 AAC 10.900-7 AAC 10.990.

    EDUCATION
    If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview, at the discretion of the hiring manager.

    Education completed in foreign colleges, universities, or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

    WORK EXPERIENCE
    If using work experience in your Applicant Profile, you must also provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. Applicant Profiles will be reviewed to determine if the responses are supported and Minimum Qualifications are clearly met. If they are not, the applicant may not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment.

    CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
    Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
