    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for the maintenance, installation and technical support of the Sheriff’s Office hardware, system software and communications systems.

    CHAIN OF COMMAND

    This position answers to the Manager V position of the Administrative Services Division.

    CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

    • Installs new peripheral devices, relocates and reconnects existing microcomputer systems related to LAN and WAN communications.
    • Performs troubleshooting and problem-solving activities on peripheral equipment, communications, micro and mini-computers.
    • Performs maintenance of networks and system operation procedures.
    • Schedules for the repair of computer equipment covered by warranties and maintenance contracts.
    • Troubleshoots all transmission media.
    • Maintain departmental inventory records for hardware and software.
    • Enforce Sheriff’s Office computer related policies (ex. software licensing and virus protection).
    • Provide on-call support for network and communications problems.
    • Be adept in the use and application of proper judgment in all activities.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE OR SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

    • Knowledge of communications technology and concepts, mainframe, mini and microcomputer operations, intelligent networking processors and devices.
    • Familiarity with hardware configurations, software, operating systems, manual systems, applications systems, date communications, networking, federal, state and local legal requirements, county and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Proficiency in translating technical specifications to practical applications, wiring, cabling and data circuit connections, communications electronics, network management, data communications protocols, and interpersonal relations.
    • Skill in troubleshooting, problem solving, and operation of diagnostic tools.
    • Good communication skills, both oral and written.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
    • Sufficient experience to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually interpreted to require 1 or more years of related experience.
    • Must pass all drug screens.

    BASIC PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES REQUIRED

    Work is performed in an office and a computer room. The work area is sometimes noisy. Work requires intermittent sitting, standing, stooping or walking and occasional lifting.
