Technology and Information Director
Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services (AE2S) is an award-winning, specialized civil engineering/environmental consulting firm that is part of a dynamic network of inter-related businesses primarily focused on water and the environment. The Technology and Information Director will play a key role in establishing technology vision and leading development and innovation by recommending and implementing an evolving technology strategy that supports shared business goals and continued organizational growth. Through a commitment to continuous improvement and driving technology-based solutions, the Technology and Information Director will seek to improve and enhance our systems, processes, and products. This position will lead each inter-related business in leveraging technology both within our organization and in working with project teams to advance leading-edge technology solutions for our Clients.
The position location can be any of the following AE2S office locations:
- Lehi, UT
- Denver, CO
- Maple Grove, MN
- North Dakota: Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, or Williston
- South Dakota: Rapid City or Sioux Falls
- Montana: Bozeman or Great Falls
Responsibilities
Strategy and Effectiveness (internal technology)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technology and information management.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive technology and security strategy aligned with the organization's business goals and objectives.
- Oversee implementation of technology and security systems, including hardware, software, and networking solutions.
- Work closely with business leaders to understand their technology and security needs, and recommend solutions to meet those needs.
- Build and manage a team of technology and security professionals by providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship in support of professional development and growth.
- Analyze business systems, processes, and procedures to determine the most effective business systems software(s) and/or technology solutions beneficial to both management and end-users; promote and implement effective, and efficient operations supportive of an optimized Company workflow.
- Partner with key Leadership to evaluate existing business system software(s) and solutions and recommend improvements and enhancements as appropriate.
- Manage relationships and contract negotiations with technology-related vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Ensure technology systems, including cloud-based systems, are secure, compliant with industry regulations, and operate efficiently and effectively.
- Assist end-users in the training required to use technology efficiently.
- Serve as a resource for program/application development to support the organization with special development needs.
- Establish measurable objectives and adjust as needed to drive performance.
- Communicate strategy to both Leadership and end-users.
Information Management / Security
- Work closely with the Information Technology (IT) Team and end-users to form systems and architecture for information management including encoding, retention, retrieval, and use.
- Lead quality assurance and data protection processes.
- Define opportunities with information management to promote efficiencies by leveraging business intelligence (BI).
- Responsible for the Company’s data protection and cybersecurity policies and procedures.
- Conduct risk management / compliance training as needed.
Client Solutions (external technology)
- Routinely engage with Client Management and Business Development teams to understand Client wants/needs.
- Work closely with business leadership across AE2S and affiliated companies to innovate and/or advance technology-based solutions to expand business offerings and ensure client satisfaction.
- Assist with the innovation, development, and implementation of new technologies that offer Client value and a competitive advantage.
- Provide technology leadership recognizing unique technology needs and opportunities for consistency and efficiency of shared systems/languages/resources.
- Serve as the single-point of common technology leadership across all affiliated companies.
Staff Management
- Set expectations for individual goal-setting and achievement, and provides direct feedback and related performance coaching for assigned staff.
- Responsible for professional development, resource allocation, and talent acquisition of the Technology Team across multiple geographic locations to facilitate a productive decentralized work environment.
- Lead by example, mentor the team, and establish credibility through vision and execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 10 years of professional experience in a technology-related field
- Demonstrated management/leadership experience
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to advise on technology strategy to all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage staff and allocate staff resources to multiple competing priorities to meet schedules and accomplish goals
- General understanding of a wide range of business-related software systems
- Working knowledge of the best information security practices
- Driven to understand and improve business efficiency and effectiveness through the strategic use of independent and/or integrated software platforms
- Ability to develop strategic technology plans with varied teams and execute on them independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the business of engineering and professional consulting
- Advanced degree in Business Administration or Management
- Experience developing technology strategic plans, establishing performance benchmarks, and managing budgets
- Willingness to travel and work in multiple geographies
- Proven and consistent success delivering measurable results

- Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $150k/year to $175k/year DOE (Compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, etc.)
