Information Technology Security System Analyst

  • The Information Technology Security System Analyst performs, plans and implements district-wide security measures and controls of the College computer infrastructure.  DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  
    a.    Plans, implements and upgrades security measures and controls.
    b.    Protects digital files and information systems against unauthorized access, modification or destruction.
    c.    Maintains data and monitors security access.
    d.    Conducts internal and external security audits and social engineering testing.
    e.    Manages network, intrusion detection and prevention systems.
    f.    Analyzes security breaches to determine their root cause using approved industry standard forensics methods.
    g.    Recommends and installs appropriate tools and countermeasures.
    h.    Defines, implements and maintains college security procedures.
    i.    Recommends security awareness training.               
    j.    Coordinates security plans with outside vendors.
    k.    Develops a complete knowledge of the District communication systems, network systems, and network operating systems used by the College.
    l.    Performs administration to the College’s network over a wide variety of mediums, including but not limited to: wired, wireless, and fiber.
    m.    Oversees the administration of the College’s District-wide firewalls at various sites.
    n.    Works cooperatively with the ITS Technical Services team in securing the network and College resources, while providing only necessary electronic access to secured and unsecured subnets of the District-wide networks as well as the Internet.
    o.    Verifies network devices for secure remote access through VPN and other College approved methods.
    p.    Provides second level support to the ITS help desk regarding networking and other communications issues.
    q.    Performs preventive maintenance, recommends improvements, and repairs the District’s network and telecommunications infrastructure.
    r.    Serves as a District-wide resource for the design, security and maintenance of the Local Area and Wide Area Networks.
    s.    Works cooperatively with vendors in performing installations and communications troubleshooting for the College’s network environment.
    t.    Develops a working knowledge of the standard College information systems, their relationship with network infrastructure, and converging networks.
    u.    Develops and maintains proper documentation of the College’s District-wide network systems.
    v.    Able to responsibly utilize board access to College database, network and computer files, including those of a confidential nature, in a manner consistent with the requirements of the position and only for job-related purposes. 
    w.    Able to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to College records and reports which are prepared, maintained, or utilized by the Board of Trustees or College Administrators in connection with labor relations and collective bargaining. 
    x.    Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

    DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:  
    a.    Serves as a backup for Sr. Network Analyst II.
    b.    Works cooperatively within the ITS Technical Services team to develop standard conventions, equipment, software, and telecommunications equipment.  Works cooperatively towards the application and implementation of the standards.
    c.    Assists in the proposal and reviews the process for application software, operating system software, network software, and hardware purchasing.
    d.    Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for networking and telecommunications.
    e.    Performs projects, maintenance, and other work with travel across the College District as necessary.
    f.    Performs other job related duties as assigned.

    PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:  
    a.    Works directly with the Co-CIO.
    b.    Works cooperatively with all other ITS staff.
    c.    Works cooperatively with district-wide academic and administrative departments. 
    d.    Works cooperatively with vendors and others as necessary.


    a.    Bachelor’s degree preferred; preferably in a technical field.  An Associate’s degree in a tech field is required, or in lieu of an Associate’s degree, a minimum of five of years of experience as a Server or Network Administrator may be substituted.
    b.    Minimum of two years of experience as a Server or Network Administrator in providing support for software, network, and communication systems required.
    c.    Minimum of two years of experience in providing support for Cisco Networking including but not limited to enterprise level firewalls, routers and switches, plus the majority of the following products required:
                 a.    Microsoft Windows, Server and Workstation Products, Microsoft Office: Word, 
                         Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
                 b.    UNIX / Linux
                 c.    Other communication devices
    d.    Network and/or Security certifications preferred.
    e.    Penetration testing of applications and infrastructure required.
    f.    Forensics experience preferred.
    g.    Capable of meeting deadlines and budgets.
    h.    Demonstrated experience in oral and written communication and participating in horizontal work groups.
    i.    Valid driver’s license required.
