Detailed Job Description
The Director of Advancement Information Systems is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of technology and information systems within our advancement ecosystem. They will be relied upon to improve, create, and maintain the systems and process infrastructure needed to support the division's strategic initiatives in the areas of philanthropy, analytics, and data.
The Advancement Systems, Data, and Analytics Team makes transformation possible for the RIT community by effectively partnering with and empowering advancement stakeholders at the crossroads of strategy, systems, data, and analytics. As a critical member of that team, the Director will develop and implement appropriate technological strategies in support of increasingly greater degrees of system connectedness and information flow.
The Director will monitor and share trends in advancement technology related industries as they apply to RIT's strategic roadmap, and will conduct regular benchmarking discussions with other colleges and universities to identify and implement best practices.
The Director will provide leadership for a team of systems programmers and engineers, and will become a trusted partner within a cross-functional work team to provide technology support to RIT's Division of Advancement and all users of RIT's donor management system.
Major Responsibilities:-
Supervise and inspire the systems-focused members of the Advancement Systems, Data, and Analytics team.

Own and maintain all technical components of our donor management ecosystem. Lead continuous improvement and modernization efforts in system architecture, process engineering, enterprise automation, and data access.

Partner with team directors on strategic initiatives; identify, plan, and implement systems-related necessities to support them

Research and prepare a plan to switch donor management systems within the next three to five years.

Maintain contact with other divisional and university entities, internal and external stakeholders and vendors to resolve any issues and ensure best practices are followed with regard to technology features and usage.

Understand and share trends in the CRM and Advancement industries as they apply to RIT's technical roadmap, and conduct regular benchmarking discussions with other colleges and universities to identify and implement best practices.

Monitor and participate in relevant listservs, training opportunities, user groups, publications, and professional groups to maintain a strong knowledge of developments in the fields of advancement, reporting and business intelligence, and database management.

As necessary, partner with the Director of Advancement Operations to provide leadership and representation for the division to ITS.

As necessary, lead technical implementation of external vendor platforms.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience in Management Information Systems, Computer Science/Engineering or Technology related field.
-
At least 5 years of experience in a technical leadership (and/or supervisory) role with an emphasis on system evolution and a high level of partnership with stakeholders.
-
At least 8 years of experience in roles with directly applicable experience and utilization/demonstration of skills summarized below.
-
Experience leading both junior and senior team members and supervising development workflow.
-
Experience leading discussions on identifying opportunities, requirements and solutions in order to build effective relationships.
Skills:

You must demonstrate a willingness and ability to support a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.

Oracle, PL/SQL, and SQL are required. Your applied programming skills also ideally include JavaScript and Python.

Advanced technical skills related to database management, developing and utilizing meta-data layers, query and scripting languages, process engineering, automation, and reporting.

General systems skills necessary to successfully deploy and debug applications, drivers, APIs, experimental technologies etc. on Windows Server VMs

Adept in ability to learn quickly, understand complex processes and procedures, apply creativity, prioritize workload, set and meet deadlines, and perform well with a minimum of direct supervision.

Demonstrable personal leadership and management skills

Strong communication skills. Ability to present or write about complex technical information and related decision points clearly for a variety of audiences.

Ability to lead, mentor, and train others; willingness to share skills and techniques with peers and colleagues.

Adherence to a high level of security and ethical standards when dealing with confidential information.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Experience with platform migration preferred.
-
Experience working within an Oracle and Python ecosystem would be ideal.

Experience in an advancement, fundraising, higher-education, and/or non-profit setting preferred. Experience (exposure/knowledge) of Ellucians Advance Web, Blackbaud higher education offerings, or similar CRM a plus.

Experience creating or supporting data-driven front-office tools and visualizations is favorable. Exposure to Tableau, Power BI, and Excel supported by Visual Basic are preferred.
