    Job Summary

    The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics conducts institutional research and partners with the campus community to support planning, accreditation, and evidence-based decision-making for student success. The main function of a research technician is to provide expertise in data analysis, visualization, mining, management and reporting to campus leadership and other offices across campus.

    The functions include but are not limited to:
    • Conduct data mining, reporting, analyses and write summaries in support of planning, enrollment management, policy formation, decision-making, and accreditation. Report for internal and external surveys, local, state and federal reporting and information requests. Responsible for generating statistics for external surveys and information requests (from the CSU Chancellor's Office, IPEDS, College Board, Princeton Review, US News World Report, National Science Foundation, CalPASS, and other organizations).
    • Create and maintain accurate SPSS syntax and SQL scripts to extract data, conduct analyses, prepare and finalize Enrollment Report System (ERS) files, design and update dashboards, and fulfill adhoc requests.
    • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments on campus to ensure the timely completion and accuracy of routine reports and special projects. Construct, test, implement, and evaluate internal surveys.



    Employment Status: Full-time, Temporary, Non-exempt position.

    Required Application Materials
    • Candidates are required to attach a letter of application, curricula vitae/resume, and a list of at least three (3) professional references.

    Work Schedule
    • Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required.

    Key Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, determining variables, developing bibliographical and other sources of data, and preparation of research reports.
    • General knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of collecting statistical data, simple correlation methods, time series analyses, analysis of frequency series, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers.
    • General knowledge of sources of information on social, economic, and population trends in California.
    • Ability to prepare questionnaires and other survey instruments.
    • Ability to gather, compile, and analyze research data, and to present data in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form, ability to prepare and work clear and comprehensive reports.
    • Capacity for independent and creative thinking and writing on research and statistical problems; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a small team.
    • Ability to maintaining strong working relationships with diverse on- and off-campus populations.
    • Communication that is clear and effective both orally and in writing.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability to creatively solve a broad spectrum of issues and develop new structures and procedures as needed.

    Required Education and Experience
    • Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection. compilation, and analysis of data. Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledges and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.




    Salary

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,721 - $4,813 per month

    Classification Range: $3,721 - $6,733 per month
