    Bausch Lomb’s Surgical R&D organization is seeking an experienced, strategic leader as Director of Surgical Products Research and External Scientific Innovation.

    Organization Overview

    This is an exciting time at Bausch Lomb as a new publicly traded company and the recent appointment of Brent Saunders as CEO.     The Bausch Lomb surgical product portfolio includes an extensive selection of eye surgery equipment that is used to perform cataract, refractive and retinal procedures, as well as intraocular lenses (IOLs), which are implanted inside the eye to replace the eye's natural lens during cataract surgery. The portfolio also includes pioneering veterinary ophthalmology surgical equipment, IOLs, viscoelastics, surgical instruments, bandages, corrective contact lenses and more.

    Position Overview

    The Director of Surgical Products Research and External Scientific Innovation is responsible for identifying opportunities for best-in-class innovation for eye care patients. This leader will hold accountability for establishing strategy for surgical equipment and intraocular modalities then landscaping opportunities for internal innovation, academic research partnerships, development programs and commercial stage in-licensing opportunities. Excellent communication skills are necessary to influence both internal and external stakeholders. In this role, the leader will be the initial and primary point of contact with potential partner companies and responsible for positioning Bausch Lomb as a partner of choice.

    Responsibilities

    Establish Bausch Lomb as the leader in eye surgery equipment and intraocular lens and partner of choice.

    Lead the search and evaluate function; Landscape the external innovation ecosystem to identify partnering opportunities; assemble cross-functional teams for due-diligence activities.

    Lead the Surgical Research function; identify areas where internal innovation and capabilities give Bausch Lomb a competitive edge.

    Prioritize innovation opportunities to enable the build of a balanced-risk pipeline.

    Develop long-term plans and goals to build disease area strategies that align with the overall objectives of the organization.

    Identify, rationalize and build necessary capabilities both internally and externally to deliver a best-in-class pipeline.

    Build on Bausch Lomb’s legacy as an eye care scientific leader by establishing robust research programs that advance science for patients.

    Identify, retain, recruit and develop top talent.

    Develop productive collaborations with internal cross-functional partners within R&D and the broad Bausch Lomb organization such as Commercial and Business Development.

    Ensure productive collaborations with external stakeholders such as biotech leaders, partner companies, and academics.

    Qualifications

    PhD in scientific field with at least 15 years of industry experience with demonstrable impact in building teams, pipelines and external partnerships.

    Experience in discovery research and effective collaborations focused on the eye health space.

    Experience leading teams to deliver productive innovation as a functional line and matrix leader.

    Effective interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and leading and navigating in a matrixed organization.

    Established relationships with KOLs and top academic researchers.

    Colorado

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For Colorado, the range of starting annual base pay for this role is $180,000 – $200,000.

    New York City

    As required by New York City’s salary transparency provisions of the New York City Human Rights Law, Bausch Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York City. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York City, the range of starting annual base pay for this role is $180,00 - $200,000.

    California

    As required by California's Salary Transparency Law, Bausch Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in California. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For California, the range of starting annual base pay for this role is $180,00 - $200,000.

    As required by Washington's Salary Transparency Law, Bausch Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in Washington. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
