    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    Reporting to the President, the Director of Institutional Research (IR) provides vision, leadership and direction for the College’s institutional research activities, particularly those associated with student success, strategic planning, accreditation and institutional effectiveness. The Director of IR will provide support and analysis for the President on all College initiatives. In collaboration with the President and senior management, the Director of IR frames research projects, directs data gathering, analyzes complex data sets, and collaborates with stakeholders to reach data-informed decisions and create strategies for organizational improvement. The Director, in collaboration with the Dean of the Academic Division, will work to promote the assessment of student learning outcomes.

    The Director of IR serves as the prime source of institutional data for the President in monitoring the College’s overall condition and progress. In fulfilling this role, the Director of IR collaborates with senior management, faculty and staff to establish and monitor key institutional indicators and increase institutional capacity for data collection and analysis in all departments. The Director of IR will maintain oversight of the Assistant/Associate Director’s completion of the College’s reporting requirements with federal, state, accrediting, and granting agencies.

    Additionally, the Director of IR serves as the point of contact for requests from internal and external sources for institutional reports, coordinates the strategic planning process, and assists in feasibility studies for new programs. The Director also provides direct support for the measurement of stakeholder satisfaction with College programs and services.

    The Director of IR will maintain oversight and provide communication on reports produced by the Assistant/Associate Director to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), National Student Clearinghouse, New Mexico Higher Education Department, American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) and other organizations and agencies. The Director may represent the President at functions with educational, tribal, foundation and corporate organizations and may also serve as liaison between the President’s Office and campus constituencies for certain initiatives.

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

    • Lead a team of key stakeholders in coordinating the institutional strategic planning process.
    • Oversee and direct the development and administration of IAIA’s student information system relating to academic and support programs and functions in coordination with the Information Technologies Department and other appropriate departments and programs
    • Leads the development of the IAIA’s Assurance Argument and other reports submitted to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) ensure compliance with HLC accreditation requirements.
    • Evaluate IAIA programs and policies, and make recommendations to support of higher performance across entire organization.
    • Develop and coordinate organizational effectiveness efforts, including leadership competencies, goal deployment, and change management and performance measures.
    • Oversee, monitor and approve production of periodic reports for IPEDS, Higher Learning Commission, American Indian Higher Education Consortium and the State of New Mexico.
    • Provide research support in the development of College grant proposals.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with AIHEC colleges and universities, HLC institutions, other educational organizations, and funding foundations.
    • Serve as a member and administrator of the IAIA Institutional Review Board

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

    • Must have Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field with five to seven (5-7) years of direct experience providing leadership for institutional research, data collection and analysis, strategic planning, change projects and organizational effectiveness initiatives. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in higher education of comparable scope and depth. MA degree is preferred.

    • Proven record of successful establishing and implementing strategic initiatives.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and manage a department and assigned staff.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build and sustain relationships with multiple and diverse constituencies including local, regional and national tribal governments, agencies and organizations as well as senior leadership of external groups.
    • Strategic thinker and planner with exceptional skills and experience in research design, strategic planning and assessment of institutional effectiveness
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work successfully with all levels of faculty, students, parents, alumni and staff as required by job responsibilities.
    • Proven capacity to work with large data sets as well as expertise in oversight in the designing and producing data-based institutional reports.
    • Familiarity with student information systems (SIS).
    • Proficiency in a broad array of software programs including statistical packages.
    • An understanding and appreciation of Native American arts, culture and higher education.
    • Experience working with diverse communities, including Native American organizations.
    • Ability to lead and direct the work of others using creativity, judgment and experience.
    • Ability to resolve conflicts in a professional, constructive manner.
    • Adhere to appropriate standards of conduct and ethics, including confidentiality, integrity and honesty.
    • Follow directives; exhibits ability to adapt to and manage changing work environments; cooperates and works respectfully with others and actively participates and engages in pro-active problem solving.
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision and exercise latitude; begin projects independently (or as assigned), and bring projects (or assignments) to conclusion on a timely basis.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Ability to read and interpret basic to complex data/information/guidelines/procedures, etc. related to a wide-range of research, planning, accreditation and institutional effectiveness issues.
    • Ability to interact and communicate (in writing or verbal) effectively with a wide-range of audiences and at all organizational levels.
    • Incumbent may be asked by President to perform other duties/projects/assignments, as needed.
    • Position may require travel (occasional out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences and functions).
    • Performance evaluation will be determined based on performance results of job duties as described herein as well as attainment of annual strategic work plan goals.
