DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for working collaboratively within Professional Learning Communities model to assist special education teachers and other instructional staff to develop and sustain strategies, skills, tools, techniques, and capacity to effectively teach students with disabilities across the division.
- Develop and conduct professional development for teachers regarding instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics related to the delivery of specially designed instruction with the emphasis on reading and writing; as well as effective differentiated instructional techniques to support literacy, math, and writing skills in general education and self-contained classes with concentration on literacy/language arts.
- Meet regularly and collaborate with special education coordinators, general education instructional coaches/specialists and school administrators to provide on going feedback regarding best instructional practices in the area of reading/language arts at the elementary and secondary levels.
- All other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement - Master's Degree preferred.
- Evidence of at least five years of successful teaching experience in special education.
- Thorough understanding of disability categories and impact on student learning as well as all special education polices/procedures.
- Ability to work in teams for program development, monitoring and improvement.
- Must possess instructional technology skills, communicate effectively and relate well with students, school personnel, and parents.
- Knowledge of curriculum materials, content standards and assessments, with an emphasis on specialized instruction strategies for students with disabilities, including accommodations/modifications, in both inclusive and specialized program settings, as well as Individualized Education Plan processes.
- Excellent organizational, planning and human relation skills
- Ability to present material to diverse educational audiences, specifically directed towards administrative and instructional staff supporting students with disabilities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of adult learning theory and Professional Learning Communities.
- Demonstrate team and relationship-building practices with school administrative teams.
- Demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions with the school community.
