The Community College of Aurora (CCA) Science Department is seeking enthusiastic professionals that have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed in their chosen field. The Science Department is comprised of a team of highly skilled and dedicated individuals that demonstrate excellence in the classroom. The successful candidate creates a classroom climate that encourages learning and possesses familiarity with issues facing diverse populations. Position Summary: Positions are available for teaching BIO 1006 (Basic Anatomy and Physiology, 4 credits/90 contact hours), using techniques and pedagogies effective for a group of diverse students. Instructors will need to be available to teach days and/or evenings on a part-time basis.

    Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills


    • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies with assistance from the Faculty Lead
    • Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus
    • Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
    • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to receive training in these areas)
    • One week prior to the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead with a copy of the course syllabus
    • At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course model syllabus and the competencies established in the Colorado Common Course Numbering System
    • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students in the college learning management system-Desire2Learn (D2L)-and submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines.
    • Attend required meetings
    • Complete the Learning Management System training, New Faculty and Instructor Orientation, and Web Accessibility Training
    • Participate in coaching/mentoring and assessment initiatives established by Department Chair and/or Faculty Lead

    Minimum qualifications & Requirements


    • A Master's degree in Biology or a Master's degree in a related content area and 18 graduate credit hours in Biology.
    • Ability to teach courses in-person at the Lowry campus.
    • Available to teach in the fall semester days or evenings.



    Preferred Qualifications:
    • College-level teaching experience
    • PhD in Biology or a related field
    • Proven track record in developing and implementing new curricular activities that impact student success
    • Demonstrated interest in engaging and impacting underrepresented students

    Supplemental information

    Salary: Instructional hours will be paid at the current Instructor rate, which is $875.00 per credit hour. Science course compensation includes additional pay for added contact hours.

    Position Specifics: Positions are available for the fall 2022 semester. These positions are part-time. There are no insurance benefits offered with these positions. However, other benefits associated with this type of position include, a pension plan through the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association and eligibility to contribute to supplemental retirement plans.
