    Job Description

    Nevada State College invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer of Biology in Anatomy and Physiology. The position will begin July 1, 2022. We seek a passionate, highly motivated, innovative, and caring colleague to help us continue to evolve and develop our program with an emphasis on teaching, innovation, and technology-core values to the mission at Nevada State College

    Primary Responsibilities:

    This is a 12-month renewable contract, with the expectation of teaching 30 credits per year (approximately 12 credits in the Fall semester, 12 credits in the Spring semester, and 6 credits in the Summer session).
    • Teach primarily, cadaver-based, Biology 223 and 224 (Anatomy & Physiology I & II). These are core pre-nursing courses taken by students planning to enter NSC's 4-year BSN program. Biology 223/224 is also open to Biology majors and students entering Allied Health professions
    • Serve on departmental and college-wide committees
    • Design course materials (syllabus, lectures, assignments, exams, and other tools of assessments)
    • Utilize training sessions/materials to master the use of Canvas, NSC's learning management system (LMS)
    • Teach, mentor, and advise students

    Required Qualifications:

    Master of Science in Biology or allied field (e.g., MPH); degree must be from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching in-person Anatomy & Physiology at the undergraduate level at an accredited institution
    • Demonstrated excellence in college teaching and a genuine interest in joining NSC, a teaching college dedicated to providing opportunities for a largely underserved student population
    • Evidence of a strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate students.
    • Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills
    • Eligible to work in the United States (note: NSC does not sponsor visas for international employees)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Ph.D. in Biology with an emphasis in Physiology, or other terminal degree in related fields (e.g., MD, DO, DVM).
    • Experience in human cadaver dissection.
    • Demonstrated commitment to active and experiential learning.
    • Experience with innovative teaching approaches and/or technologies.
    • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population.
    • Although not required, the college and the department do encourage faculty to engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.


    Rank, Salary & Benefits:

    Non-tenure track position, 12-month appointment. Budgeted salary for this position is $50,000. Nevada State College offers excellent benefits, including 15.50% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 11 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
