  • : Part-time Instructor - Industrial Hygienist Support for Beryllium and Industrial Hygiene Technician Training Programs
    Position is located in Richland, WA. Travel and per diem have not been authorized for this position.

    The Volpentest HAMMER Federal Training Center is a U. S. Department of Energy training facility specializing in hands-on training for the Hanford Site and the nation's Homeland Security mission. HAMMER Training requires instructional support for the Site Wide Beryllium Training Program at the HAMMER facility. Beryllium training is required by 10 CFR 850.37 Chronic Beryllium Disease Prevention Program – Training and Counseling. In addition, instructional support is needed for the Industrial Hygiene Technician (IHT) Training Program.

    The successful candidate will perform the function of Industrial Hygienist in the scheduled classes and present training as a designated instructor. This will include assisting with the development, review, and modification of Beryllium or IHT training courses as requested. This may include:

    Attain proficiency in each course prior to teaching the class unsupervised. For courses not already qualified to teach, this will entail studying the course(s) material, discussion of the course material with current instructors to ensure adequate knowledge of the material, observing the class, and conducting the class under the supervision of a current instructor.

    Provide training in accordance with approved current course lesson plans.

    Adhere to and require that all students abide by the approved Health and Safety Plan for each course.

    Arrive 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the course being taught to:

    Ensure that the classroom, equipment and course documents are in order for class.

    Greet students and ensure they are properly signed into class.

    Request those who attend the course, sign the course roster.

    Request all students fill out a course evaluation form.

    Sign the course roster at the conclusion of the training.

    Verify all students successfully completed the training and indicate any students who did not successfully complete the course.

    Spend the time after class ends to ensure that all course materials/rosters have been checked for accuracy and delivered to HAMMER Training Logistics.

    Required Qualifications:
    Current Certification as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

    Five or more years of experience in Industrial Hygiene and Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Technology areas of focus

    Minimum of two years of instructional experience in teaching OS&H courses

    Desired Qualifications:
    Minimum of five years of experience as Industrial Hygienist at Hanford

    Demonstrated experience at Hanford Facilities and Hanford Projects

    Knowledgeable of Industrial Hygiene Technician (IHT) roles and responsibilities on the Hanford site

    Demonstrated knowledge of ongoing Hanford Beryllium issues and knowledge of Hanford Chronic Beryllium Disease Prevention Program (CBDPP).

    Experience presenting to large groups

    Basic use of Microsoft Office suite

    Basic use of Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment

    Strong customer service skills

    Strong presentation skills, including presenting to a diverse student population; i.e., professional, bargaining unit, and management, etc.

    Additional Information

    This is a part-time, as-needed position.

    As part of the technical evaluation, candidates who are found to meet the technical qualifications may be interviewed by HAMMER Training staff. As a part of that interview, the Subcontractor instructor candidate(s) may be asked to give a 10- to 15-minute presentation to HAMMER Training staff to demonstrate his/her instruction and presentation abilities on a safety training subject.
    Pay range is $55-75/hr depending on qualifications. Part-time benefits include matching 401k and mandatory sick pay.
    This job is on a US federal facility site. Candidate must be able to meet requirements for working on a federal facility site without escort and without sponsorship.
