Job Description
Performs a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and relaying routine and emergency information;
keeping official records; and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the communication center.
Essential Duties
Answers phones for incoming administrative calls and direct to proper extensions. Answers phones for non-emergency and some emergency calls for police service.
Handles emergency call for service, or re-direct emergency call for service to appropriate agency, when required
Obtains pertinent information for non-emergency police calls such as : location, problem, suspect information, and special hazards.
Keys input information into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) for Bell County Communications Center (BCCC). Update information to BCCC when necessary either by CAD or radio.
Assists officers in obtaining call information from CAD database.
Operates National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) terminal. Enters persons / property into NCIC and TCIC.
Makes inquiries to NCIC and TCIC for officers and jailers and send teletype messages to other agencies.
Ensures the presence of reserve units by contacting personnel designated for callback; relays information as required. Notifies on-call personnel, when necessary.
Assists in training of new communication specialists as they are hired.
Maintains communication center work area and equipment in clean and working condition.
Performs local, county, state, and national warrant checks.
Inputs data to standard office and department forms, both manual and automated, makes simple posting to various reports.
Maintains communication documents and records.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
1. Graduation from a high school or equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing and filing; and,
2. Six (6) months of increasingly responsible related experience, or
3. Any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
1. Must pass a thorough background investigation and complete a polygraph examination.
2. Must attend a Basic Telecommunicator Course within one (1) year of hire at department's expense and must obtain a Telecommunicator License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement within one (1) year of hire.
3. Department of Public Safety Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) terminal operator certification and 911 training.
Employee will be required to attend school within six (6) months of hire at the department expense.
4. Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
5. Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
