Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.   • The Gianforte School of Computing, housed in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, invites applications for a full-time instructor. The faculty position to be filled is a non-tenure track appointment with primary responsibilities in teaching and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Computer Science program. Duties will include teaching undergraduate courses, developing and teaching courses consistent with the candidate’s background, engaging in pedagogical activities and participating in professional/service/outreach activities.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Contribute to Computer Science instruction, mentoring, and advising; engage in pedagogical activities; and participate in professional/service/outreach activities.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Relevant degree (e.g. an M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field) or professional experience.
    • Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department


    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Ability to teach several courses that are offered by the School of Computing.
    • Prior teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.

    The Department
    The Gianforte School of Computing (GSoC) at Montana State University supports the mission of the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering and the University through its teaching, research, and service activities. The GSoC serves approximately 500 majors, 100 minors and 50 graduate students by preparing them for computing careers and for a lifetime of learning.
    The GSoC offers a broad array of curricular opportunities in computing areas that include Computer Science (minor, B.S. degree, B.A. degree, M.S. degree, Ph.D. degree), Data Science (minor, a forthcoming B.S. degree, M.S. degree) and Cybersecurity (M.S. degree). Montana State University received a generous $50 million dollar gift for a new computing building in 2022 and the GSoC looks forward to serving as its anchor occupant in the future.

    The College
    The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic departments (Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Gianforte School of Computing, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering) and is home to numerous research centers such as the Center for Biofilm Engineering and the Western Transportation Institute. The College enrolls approximately 3,150 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students.
