CMU teaches all disciplines of performance and production in a professional conservatory-style training program. The position supervises audio budgets, equipment, facilities, and workers in the classroom, production, and facility contexts. The position will also have formal and informal teaching responsibilities. Your primary duties would include: School culture/values responsibilities: Model and support the SoD core values by attending Anti-racism, DE&I, Sexual harassment, and other anti-bias training as scheduled by the SoD and attending similar training beyond those scheduled by the SoD. Audio Management: Equipment oversight: Repair and maintain all audio equipment for classroom and production purposes. Identify, advocate for, procure, and deploy improvements. Lead management of this inventory. Assist in the maintenance of audio-related spaces. Budget management: Coordinate with the director of production, and business manager to oversee overhead and capital budgets, and the associated procurement and expenses. Teaching/Advising/Mentoring: Teach foundational audio practical skills classes in both the classroom and practicum settings. Mentor and advise students performing audio duties as a part of their studies. Practical Audio Devices: Engineer and fabricate practical audio devices for use in theatrical production, and/or oversee students doing the same. Production Support: Oversee the SoD yearly musical. Provide direct audio support to SoD productions that are not covered by assigned students. Classroom support: Assist faculty in ensuring that the audio equipment required for audio teaching in classrooms and other spaces is in working order. Event Support: Provide direct audio support for school events. Training: Train and support faculty, staff, and students on the use of installed and portable audio equipment for classroom, production, and event purposes. Supervision of workers: Recruit and supervise student employees, and overhire staff where appropriate, to assist in the above. You should demonstrate: AutoCAD proficiency, ETCP Audio certification, experience and/or certification in automated Audio equipment servicing, theatrical rigging experience and/or ETCP certification, chain motor experience/training/servicing certification; prior experience in an educational environment. Qualifications: Education: A bachelor’s degree with experience in theatrical audio or an equivalent combination of education/experience is preferred. Skills: 3 years of professional practice in audio management and/or design; fluency in VectorWorks and Qlab; experience with a wide array of digital mixing consoles, speakers, audio network protocols, and outboard processing units; ability to analyze and understand issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Physical Ability: Ability to perform specific tasks in specific scenarios involving lifting, balance, and working at heights, or to find alternative means of completing any such tasks involved.
