    Essential Functions

    • Designs, formats, and delivers curriculum for lab-based science courses in a variety of disciplines in accordance with BMCC course and program learning outcomes. The ideal candidate would be versatile with a broad or interdisciplinary science background.
    • Deliver course content for labs and lectures in face to face and both synchronous and asynchronous distance formats. Provide regular and substantive feedback to all students, especially in distance education courses.
    • Prepare and teach assigned courses in other academic areas as assigned.
    • Delivers course content using face-to-face and both synchronous and asynchronous distance formats.
    • Provides regular and substantive feedback to all students, especially in distance education courses.
    • Continually works to improve curriculum and teaching by staying current in trends in best practices in Community College education, the use of technology in the classroom.
    • Integrate interdisciplinary and global perspectives into course curriculum, incorporating appropriate inquiry based learning or undergraduate research opportunities into course curriculum where appropriate.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the needs of adult learners in the classroom.
    • Adopt teaching practices that foster learning in and out of the classroom.
    • Provide students with a course syllabus the first class period of each term clearly stating all required elements including, but not limited to, learning outcomes, grading processes, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements, communication policy, and required texts.
    • Use the adopted learning management systems in teaching and course management.
    • Collects data to assess learning based on course outcomes; use assessment data to make improvements in course curriculum and adopt teaching practices that foster learning for students.
    • Provide regularly scheduled and posted office hours for student advisement and course related consultation. Maintain hours of work on campus.
    • Advise and mentor students to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
    • Observe all policies of the Board of Education and/or administration regulations and procedures as they apply to the instructor as a member of the college faculty and as a BMCC employee.
    • Follow the highest ethical and professional standards of the teaching profession and promote the best interests of the students and the College.
    • Participates in departmental meetings, faculty meetings, and other teams, committees or planning activities as are scheduled to promote the educational goals of the college and its students.
    • Represent the College in the community and provide community service to benefit the program/discipline and the college.
    • Participate in college-wide plans and activities to recruit students, improve student retention and completion.
    • Ability to facilitate the success of individuals representing a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Commitment to pluralism and the ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
    • Strengthen relations and collaborative activities with K-12 (Early College Credit) and baccalaureate-granting colleges; including participation in the college’s dual and early credit programs.
    • Maintain an annual professional development plan with the Office Instruction.
    • When required, mentor new full-time and part time faculty.

    Other Aspects of this Position

    • The applicant will need to be able to perform job functions independently, and with limited logistical support.
    • Ability to travel to other locations to instruct as needed or to attend meetings/conferences, valid driver’s license required.
    • Supplemental teaching load will vary depending on background. The department chair will work with the employee to develop a yearlong schedule reflecting background and interests.

    Required Education and Experience

    • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in a cross-disciplinary science field, or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 20 graduate credits (quarter) in another field; or a Master’s Degree in Teaching with an advanced science endorsement.
    • Experience teaching both lecture and lab components of college level lab science.

    Desired Additional Qualifications

    • Two (2) years of undergraduate instruction, preferably at a Community College.
    • Community college instruction including recent successful teaching experience in lab science.

    Salary: Per Faculty contract salary scale
