    Job Description Summary

    Selected applicants will be interviewed to establish a pool of approved Education or Child Development/Early Childhood Education instructors for possible part-time teaching assignments in the Applied Behavioral Sciences Division, primarily in the Education Department. We have an immediate need to teach EDUC 200, Introduction to Teaching. Assignments may be day, evening, or weekend classes at the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus, South County Center, Dual Enrollment (in local schools) or other sites within San Luis Obispo County, or distance education.

    Essential Functions & Qualifications

    Required:
    • Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education from an accredited institution;
    OR

    • Bachelor's in any of the above from an accredited institution AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies from an accredited institution ;
    OR

    • Master's in education from an accredited institution;
    OR

    • The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website .)
    OR

    • A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
    Also Required:
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
    Desirable:
    • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
    • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges;
    • Experience with navigating or teaching in an online learning management system.
