Summary

Under the supervision of the High School Principal, the Secondary English/History Teacher will develop culturally appropriate curriculum, facilitate daily school operations, and teach children high school and college preparation English/History classes needed for graduation.

Your Education / Experience

• A Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Washington State Secondary teacher certification with appropriate endorsement(s) in English and History that cover secondary grades through 12th is required.

Your Responsibilities

• Promoting the school’s vision within the Suquamish Tribe
• Develop and implement instructional programs for English/History to meet tribal, local, state and federal learning objectives and requirements
• Establish and maintain a courteous, respectful and collaborative working environment
• Participate in budget and resource planning under the leadership of the High School Principal.
• Research and/or develop culturally appropriate curriculum for English/History and implement this in classroom setting
• Teach core English and History class(es)
• Develop student contracts and meet with students weekly to document student progress
• Develop/modify lessons for individuals (when appropriate)
• Maintain student records and complete required reports and evaluations
• Assist in the operational functions of the Education Program as assigned
• Perform other duties and assist with special projects as needed

Qualifications You’ll Bring

• Knowledge of CKA operations, including but not limited to programs such as, The Native American Education Committee, Impact Aid and other funding sources for Native American Education
• Knowledge of educational issues and experience working with 9-12 Native American children promoting their success in academic programs
• Able to teach course standards
• Desire and/ or experience working with children who have experienced learning difficulties
• Demonstrated use of computers in classroom
