Instructor - English teaches courses in the discipline area of English. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - English provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - English typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Job Description

    Position Summary
    • Instructor is responsible for teaching ENG 100-102 at their high school.
    • Instructor is responsible for meeting ENG 100-102 course goals provided by CSN English Department.
    • Instructor must be familiar and able to navigate the learning management system CANVAS.
    • Instructor is responsible for building course based on English Department required text or Open Education Resources.
    • Instructor is responsible for submitting syllabus to CSN English Dual Enrollment Coordinator at the beginning of each semester.
    • Instructor is responsible communicating CSN important dates and deadlines to students: Drop/Add, Withdraw with or without a "w" etc.
    • Instructor is responsible for ensuring CSN class roster matches high school roster; must be able to navigate MyCSN.
    • Instructor is responsible for maintaining course rigor; must hold students to college-level standards.
    • Instructor is responsible for communicating with CSN English Dual Enrollment Coordinator regarding questions/issues.
    • Instructor must be available for course evaluation once a school year.
    • Instructor is responsible for inputting final grades into CSN's system by semester deadline.
    • Instructor is responsible for sending grade change forms to CSN English Dual Enrollment Coordinator if applicable.
    • All other duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications
    • Applicants must be pre-approved by the English Department and the Jumpstart Program before submitting an application in Workday.
    • Applicants must possess (at the time of application): master's degree in English or: Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Writing. OR master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in a closely related discipline: Education, Linguistics, Liberal Arts, Linguistics. FOR ALS 101: Master's degree in Education OR Counseling, Educational Psychology, Student Personnel Services, Educational Leadership from a regionally accredited college/university. College teaching or work experience in the area of college success/personal development courses (community college experience preferred)
    • An interview with the English Dual Enrollment Coordinator or other English Department representative will be required prior to approval to teach ALS 101 for the Jumpstart Program.


    Jumpstart Salary

    $200.00 per class per semester

    Please Note: This job announcement is not an offer of employment. It will be open for a period of one year and has been established to collect a robust candidate pool for part-time positions that may become available within the designated discipline at CSN. If a part-time position becomes available within the discipline, the department will review the application material of the candidates who have applied and will invite select candidates to interview based on their qualifications. Should a candidate be selected for a part-time instructor position, no minimum course load is guaranteed and teaching assignments, if any, are contingent upon various factors, including but not limited to, minimum student enrollment and/or department need. No reimbursement for travel expenses will be provided to local or out of area/out of state candidates and there is no guarantee of continued or future part-time and/or full-time employment.
