    Job Description:
    The Amgen Bioprocessing Center (ABC) at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) seeks to recruit an outstanding candidate to fill open Lecturer position. The ideal Candidate should have an established record of excellence in research, mentoring, and teaching in bioprocessing with emphasis on biologics and focus on lab practices for mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, downstream processing and cell line development.

    The successful candidate will contribute to teaching programs at all levels, establish strong collaborative training and research with industry, and enhance excellence of the academic community through research and teaching. The successful candidate will participate actively as a member of the KGI community and Amgen Bioprocessing Center, on administrative committees, search committees, in all ABC and KGI activities, and student advising and mentoring.

    Education and Experience:
    The successful candidate must have a PhD degree related to bioprocessing, including Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology or another related field. Experience in teaching and lab maintenance is desired.

    Description of Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

    The candidate will partner with appropriate faculty to lead lab instruction for courses including mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, downstream processing, vector design and cell line development.

    The candidate will collaborate with Lab Manager to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation and adequate availability of supplies for all lab areas.

    The candidate will coordinate and/or supervise Team Masters' Projects and student independent research projects in the labs.

    The candidate will coordinate and/or lead industry-sponsored projects in the labs.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

    Must possess excellent verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, community officials, campus colleagues and the public.

    Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and personal integrity.

    Must have basic computer skills, Microsoft Office, all components. Demonstrate or develop competence in Access DB.

    Able to work cooperatively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles and backgrounds and demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

    Ability to adapt well to unexpected situations and re-prioritize work according to changing circumstances to meet objectives.

    Able to use technology easily and effectively to enhance productivity and to assess progress toward office goals.

    Able and willing to work weekend and evening hours, as needed.

    Physical and Mental Requirements :
    Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.

    Capable of producing, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Ability to maintain attention to details with emphasis on accuracy and good concentration level while dealing with interruptions. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters.
