Position Expectations
Fayetteville Academy seeks a middle school history teacher who is eager to help lead students through a robust curriculum and thoughtful course sequence. This position requires a genuine enthusiasm for working with middle school students and a desire to create a vigorous learning experience that is also fun, engaging and relatable.
The courses this position is responsible for include 7th Grade Civics, which includes a Project Citizen research project and showcase, and 8th Grade World Geography. The Middle and Upper School history curriculum includes Civics, World Geography, Ancient Civilizations, Modern History/AP Modern History, Government/AP Government, US History/AP US History, and AP Capstone courses. All history courses focus greatly on skill development including writing, research, and source analysis. Depending on candidate strengths, flexibility to teach other courses is an option. This role includes maintaining lesson plans, assignments and essays, progress reports and grades.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in history (with a master’s degree preferred) and at least three to five years of teaching experience in either middle or high school education. Independent school experience is preferable. Effective communication with students, parents and colleagues is essential. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, a sense of humor, enthusiasm and a desire to collaborate are also important for this position.
